I’m curious what the fuel consumption is on something like that 5 gallons per hour? 20 gallons per hour?

The bucket doesn’t have replaceable blades that’s kind of weird. I bet that bucket is very expensive but damn that cost less than a used car. Imagine the money you can make with that just a few hours per week.

seems to me you are proficient, but mom earth pukes up rocks slowly so maybe line the entrance with big rocks but my point is you will not beat nature, that buried rock will reappear in the future, good luck and you get an Aplus for welding aluminum.

What could go wrong? Hoses, cylinders, tracks, rollers, sprockets. But wait! There's more! You'll only know when it breaks something. But if you're not going to put high hours on it you may have just gotten a screaming deal. Of course you will have already learned that it ain't cheap to haul it.

Try Googling some maintenance videos on your piece of equipment before blindly making any mistakes

A mechanic channel pointed out something interesting: When pre-filling a filter don’t pour into the hole in the middle, that’s the return. Pour the oil or fuel into the holes around the outside.

You changed the oil and all of the filters, but did you grease all of the joints? Speaking of which, did you inspect ANYTHING on the machine to check for excessive wear?

Painting is the ABSOLUTE LAST thing you should be thinking about. Remember this phrase: Form Follows Function. That means it's more important THAT it works and how well, than how it looks.

Don't EVER pull from the side, that's a good way to have a bad day. You'll tip the machine over, and they are much easier to tip than to right them.

I don't care HOW hot it is, don't wear shorts and/or sneakers while performing maintenance. Long pants and steel-toed work boots are the uniform of the day.

That oil plug with the valve is (most probably) designed to accept a specific type of drain hose in order to avoid the mess you caused.

DON'T TIGHTEN FILTERS WITH WRENCHES!!! Use your hands, or the next time you'll find yourself using a great deal more force to get the filter off. You'll probably have to destroy the filter to remove it. Destroying the filter, in and of itself, is not a concern, it's the unnecessary extra time and energy required to remove it. We're talking upwards of 30 minutes, versus a few seconds. You'll understand the first time it happens.

If you're going to repack the pistons, make sure you inspect the chromed portions for pitting from corrosion, and other damage. Even small knicks and dents can cause serious leaks.

Inspect ALL hydraulic hoses and lines (the lines are made of steel, hoses are steel-reinforced rubber) for rust, chafing, knicks, kinks, dry rot (that's mostly the rubber), and other damage.

All of that racket being made when moving the machine is due to excessive wear on the tracks and their associated components. It would be a good idea to pressure wash the tracks COMPLETELY CLEAN, inspect all components (moving and stationary) and repair or replace them as necessary.

The cab glass is a nicety. It helps keep the wind and rain down, but unless you actually intend on using it during a howling storm, you can make a simple, easily removed plywood box to protect it when not in use. If you insist on replacing the glass, understand that it will be expensive. Custom pieces for a machine that old are no longer available from the manufacturer, and having a glazier cut safety glass to fit ain't cheap.

I'm a retired mechanic with 40 years experience. If you decide you want any other advice from a run-down old dog like me, email me.

Bury boulders? In some places they can sell for more than your excavator is worth. Lovers of natural landscapes build slides from them, outline ponds, and install them in waterfalls. The larger and more original the stone, the more expensive it is.

Those turbochargers will completely blow out if you cook them. The throttle should be below 50% for 2 minutes and then below 25% for 2 minutes. Give the turbocharger time to cool off a little bit before you shut it off
