It's kind of funny all of the best parts of that movie were call backs to the original. So I wouldn't say that I dislike this movie. It's more like the reason why I can enjoy it to a certain degree is because I enjoy the original. But one thing I don't think anyone can disagree with me on. Them fucking retconning the second predator movie with the flintlock at the end is fucking bullshit. Predator 2 is better than Prey, we shouldn't be retconning the better movie in order to have a plot point in a weaker movie

For the sequel her brother will follow in her footsteps and because a fierce woman hunter , I think Prey : for humanity would be a fitting title .. the predator can come to earth to find gender equality from they/them patriarchal society and be treated as a beautiful flower rather than a viscous alien monster

This is a very astute breakdown of this movie. Especially the part about the lack of character development of the protagonist as opposed to the original.
I appreciate your work drinker. Im looking forward to seeing what your creatice endeavors come to be in the future.

If your main character is more or less the same, as a person, from beginning to end, then your movie fails the most basic of movie concepts: character development. That's one of the main things that makes a story rewarding and interesting. It's to see how the different events and plot change the characters. It's the basic story of the hero. He starts as a lowly, immature peasant but throughout the story he learns to become stronger, more mature, takes responsibility, saves the kingdom from evil dragon and marries the princess, becoming the new king. That's what makes people aspire to be like him. Think of the story of Nathan Algren from the last samurai. He gradually becomes a better man throughout the movie. Stops drinking, finds peace, learns to be a samurai, helps them fight the evil industrialized army.

i completely missed this movie and was curious about doing research and extremely surprised landing on this channels review and saying it was a "decent movie". I suspect it was a paid review. it's woke garbage by every metric. it's a ridiculous settings, with a ridiculous MC. even if the MC was the best male hunter in the village it would still be dumb.

Just one criticism... at the end of Predator... didn't Arnold take the Predator 1 on 1?

Yet, you mock a girl for doing the same. In both movies, the humans survived due to their intelligence.. not brute strength. It was never Arnold's huge muscles or massive fire-power that authored his victory. No, it was his intelligence and cunning. Once he realized that technology was useless against his foe, he went spec-ops and started relying on cunning and intelligence.

The Predator's biggest weakness (vs humans) has always been their failure to treat their hunted with respect. I'm not sure I've seen a Predator die on film from a cause other than hubris.

Although, to be fair, in most cases... hubris is code for the dude writing the story just trying to push things along along.

[edit.. You said this setting violates a principle that states Predators show up in hot enviornments to make the hunt more challenging. May I ask why Alien vs Predator happens in caverns of ice beneath Antarctica? I'm not saying you are just talking shit here, but I am saying what you said doesn't match up with what the movies have done and said. Kinda like you are living in some alternate universe here.]

I know I'm super late, this is the 2nd time I've watched this 'cause it came up in my recommendations today.

And I was just thinking, if they had put a massive loss as a reason for her wanting to be a warrior, like failing to protect a younger sister or brother, it could've worked better as her internal need to be a strong warrior to protect her tribe.
Because she doesn't want that loss again. To the point where it's almost obsessive that she HAS to be strong or else she'll get hurt if she loses the people she loves and cares about.
She could be temperamental and getting increasingly frustrated until she meets the Predator which forces her to move with more thought or to realize that she needs a calm and stable headspace if she wants to defeat it. That she can't let her emotions always get the best of her and that she has to let go of the past in order to stop giving a tether to her frustrations.
The whole, "It's not your fault. You couldn't have done anything to save them. You have to stop blaming yourself." sort of shtick.

Take this with a grain of salt though 'cause I also haven't seen this movie in years, lol.

It really wasn't coincidental that her tribe found her tho. They can track animals as small as mice. I grew up in the woods and I could easily find rabbits, deer, foxes, and so on, even people. These people would be absolute pros at tracking. Their lives depended on it.

The thing I found "off" about this movie is how different the star looked from the other Indians. It was like they adopted a Filipina-Latina. It was decent that they showed the rest of the tribe hunters were X-Men, as it wasnt so shocking when she started flipping around like Nightcrawler.

Hey Einstein, dogs have been in the Americas since before the Colombian exchange. Dogs have also been domesticated for thousands of years. There were many breeds of dogs that were domesticated by Native Americans including one that produced wool. Open a book. Oh wait, that’s right. You cannot read.

Prey is so stupid.
Main female character who can't kill a lion, can't kill a bear then instantly get stronger after a short training montage and magically win against monster that a group of well-trained warrior can't kill.

Pretty much agree with the review. I had a real problem with the depiction of the Comanches, who never ever roamed in a region of the country that looked remotely like that. All plains indian tribes lives centered around the hunting of buffalo, and yet you wouldn't get that from how little interaction these indians had with the buffalo. But the biggest issue for me was, a 100 pound female won't last two seconds in a straight up confrontation with a remotely competent Predator. That could've been fixed if she and here brother had worked together a bit more at the end.

Disagree with Drinker here. The film was basically just more Woke Disney crap, the character jumping from believable victim overcoming challenges to Woke Mary Sue, right at the end. Unlike Ripley or Dutch, who survive by the skin of their teeth using their wits to defeat an unknowable horror, she basically just somersaults over the monster at the end, having previously been, y'know, believable Disney can't write a female protagonist who is anything over than a Mary Sue for pre-schoolers
