something i always hated with duolinguo is the absence of the alphabet. i want to learn other languages the way i learned english (sort of): teach me the alphabet, teach me their sounds, teach me their words. we were always taught “sound out the word” i can’t sound out a word if i don’t know what sounds i’m supposed to be making. sure, you can just listen to the word being said, but there’s no engagement there, there was no solid effort, and i hate that.
ОтветитьDuolingo: oh no the bread is too delicious
ОтветитьIn my french class we used duolingo as general review for vocab. Duolingo is good for that purpose.
When learning new concepts duolingo can do it, but itd be twice as fast if you just did a worksheet from a textbook
I think, as someone who grew up in Italian speaking home, but didn't have a grammar base - duolingo is the first thing teaching me the actual grammar rules without making me feel like I'm memorizing conjugation tables. These ridiculous sentences are making sure I'm learning the rules and not memorizing the sentences.
ОтветитьI have been using Duolingo for a few years now and would say I'm between level B1 and B2 in Spanish. I do appreciate that I seriously need other methods as I cannot learn proper grammar. I watch Spanish language programmes, listen to Spanish bands etc just to hear the sound of the vocabulary, but I wouldn't have any idea at all if it wasn't for initially using the app. Yes, it's very frustrating, especially when they 'change for the better', removing everything that you loved about it, but it's a free way to learn and can be fun!
ОтветитьThe same or different languages throughout the 800 days
ОтветитьIt’s time I got a great video telling me the truth. Glad I still have Duolingo! Great video thanks!
ОтветитьA thoughtful analysis and series of comments. In particular, thinking about oneself as engaged in a learning process is a good way to develop discipline. It took an enormous amount of discipline to study every day for 2 1/5 years. I wonder the average number of minutes studied per day?
ОтветитьDuolingo is alright if you have already had classes and are looking to keep up your skills, but it is full of mistakes that no native speaker would make, and that anyone who has studied will instantly recognize. Ihe only thing Duolingo is good for, other than vocabulary, is entertainment, and picking up bad habits., Grammar wise (learning the proper use of word order, cases, etc.).Otherwise it is garbage.
I am very familiar with Duolingo, used it just to keep fresh after college classes in French, Spanish and Russian, and it has gotten worse, not better in the last 8 years. there are lots of grammatical errors, and insufficiencies that will give you bad habits that you will have to unlearn if you have never taken classes, or studied from reliable textbooks.
A little tip for Duolingo Russian learners. Duolingo relies heavily on memorization of phrases, and relies far more on the informal than on the formal, what you need to keep in mind is that the informal is only used by native speakers to talk to their children and loved ones. Use the informal to a Russian native, and they will think you mentally handicapped, gay, or are trying to insult them.
Will you learn that on Duolingo? No. Keep that in mind before you rely on Duolingo as your source of learning.
You made me think of learning Spanish differently. Appreciate it.
ОтветитьDuolingo sucks.
ОтветитьJeg leser norsk med DUOLINGO, og det er min forst uke og jeg alsker det😊
ОтветитьI decided to conduct an experiement, whereby I'd use Duolingo (a) for a completely new language (Greek), (b) a language where I'm an "advanced beginner" (German) and (c) where I'm high intermediate (Italin). After 1 month of daily exercises in all 3, I think it works best for situations like (b). At more advanced levels, I find I waste a lot of time rehashing what I already know pretty well; and as a beginner I don't feel that Duolingo gives me the right tool to start understanding the language. So my advice is to use it to move from the basic to the intermediate level.
ОтветитьJust starting Spanish as a 3rd language. Thanks for the motivation
Ответитьi've been learning welsh on duolingo for about 100 days now, i still can't really speak welsh very easily but my reading, writing and listening have improved massively. the problem with learning welsh is that i've lived in wales all my life, but actually finding fluent welsh speakers is hard
ОтветитьEyyy swedish man :)
ОтветитьI just need basic footing on German and I’m good to go. I learned English reading comics and watching anime and I’m completely fluent. I would recommend duolingo for knowing the basics.
Ответитьjust wanna say, you have nice blue eyes
ОтветитьDuo give my dad back!
ОтветитьI think a lot of our learning and memory is highly emotional based.
Which is why it would be easier in a country that speaks the language you want to learn, than just using an app.
Sometimes when I have cool dreams, I find it’s usually easier to recall all the details by how I felt in the dream. Idk how that shit works, but it feels like some kind of encoding/decoding shit through your bodily emotional response. What would you say if you touched a hot pan, in English, now practice using the translation in the same contexts. Happy English, to happy translated word.
So maybe we can expose ourselves emotional through learning the language.
As in, one way I’d be trying to remember certain words, is use all the human emotional spectrum, and write things that are TRUE to YOU and your experiences, and say it out loud.
Think of it as self therapy using another language.
You’d have to be reminded of how you felt using those words, but try to be sincere.
I also find that it’s easy for me to learn new words in my own language, if I’m reading things that I’m genuinely interested in. It helps me understand the context, because I go out of my way to learn its meaning and usage. Remember, learning a new word in your own language is still foreign to you, but it’s learned because it’s based on pronunciations you already know. Learn the alphabets, the different combinations of them, and how they are all pronounced. Cause I can assure you, there are some weird letters for other languages, but it’s not impossible to link it to another word you’ve heard in your own language. Maybe even write it a way you could easily prounouce, so you can read it off the paper easily, then slowly weed off that and more into proper spelling. Think of words you use on a daily basis and learn the correct translations and it’s proper conjugations and what not.
Idk if it’ll work for everyone, but I know how I learn other stuff and recall it. So I’m sure I can make my emotions work for something I want.
A friend of mine picked up English so quickly using Duolingo and Fluenti for speaking. He said the secret is to practice whenever you have time even when you're in bathroom ; )
ОтветитьThis can be explained. If you learn ordinary sentences, your brain does not remember them, but when a funny sentence pops up, you will remember it 100%
ОтветитьThanks mate
ОтветитьI've found that duolingo improves my ability to comprehend but not my ability to write or speak. This is still incredibly useful for getting that base proficiency to start having simple conversations though.
Ответить“You might be a duck” - Dutch Duolingo
Ответить"This cat is writing a book" - german duolingo
ОтветитьI understood what you said in swedish because I study norwegian in duolingo. Hvorfor er hunden i sengen?
ОтветитьIt’s hard coming from the UK. When next to no-one bothers learning a second language and the attitude here is just poor. It’s hard to find motivation, have gone from learning Spanish, Italian, German and Serbian. I have a decent level in all but can’t pick a language.
ОтветитьDuo lingo be like "juan is a very important doctor at a hospital, he is a dog, he does not drink water, he drinks wine, juan is very elegant"
ОтветитьDuolingo:
Person: what is inside of ur bag?
You: le sac est rouge
Are you a horse? 😮
Edit: im doing a 2000 day challenge on Duolingo... support me
Save me from the owl 😢
I'm a native french speaker, I learned English randomly on the internet and am now fluent after 2-3 years. I started spanish on duo 2 weeks ago and it seems quite legit, I really feel like I'm learning things 👍
ОтветитьY'all. I just installed duolingo and i think that i will be able to understand polish and talk it. But what about writing? Does duolingo ask you to spell things above tapping word and sentences?
ОтветитьThe police know where you take a shower - Vietnamese Duolingo 🤣
ОтветитьDuolingo Chinese: “There are 1500 cat photos in my phone.” How did they know? 😂
ОтветитьDuolingo:soy es un niño
Ответитьitalian/deutsch end deutsch/italian has errors in translation. moreover you must use exactly the words and syntax duolingo is expecting, even if you write correctly. This is boring.
ОтветитьI am using Duolingo and Pimsleur to learn German. Eventually I'll get to watching TV. I have tried but even though I recognize some words I struggle. But I am determined to get there. I do have super because I got a discount via Amex offer. No ads is good.
ОтветитьI started Turkish on Duolingo in May. My LDR bf is Turkish and Ima surprise him and his friends by saying some common phrases in Turkish when I visit him this Saturday 😆
ОтветитьI love how honest and well spoken your opinion is
ОтветитьIch denke, Sie brauchen ein paar spanische Bücher
ОтветитьYou really just do crazy shit for videos man.
ОтветитьI have an 890 streak on Duo and yes it has been repared de temps en temps. The fact that you don't think it counts bothers me not at all. Why are you such a hard ass (Nazi?)!!! Cut me some slack why don't you?
ОтветитьI don’t even like Duolingo at all because one I have tried it so many times I get most of the answers wrong not always correct, so this is what I have so far I got memorize reverses WLEe where are you can listen to stories and there is some vocabulary words in it and I’m done with translating words. I am doing some other things that are interested in me.
Ответитьim the 999,234 view
Ответитьduolingo is great. Its such a good way to make ypur ass actually learn!
Of course youll need to watch movies and read books and especially converse in your target language, but by god, duolingo is a reeeaally amazing stepping stone
Bro I was doing a Russian course and it sayed “it sees you” BRO IT SCARED ME 😭
ОтветитьAfter learning Chinese for an year, I was finally presented with a nice little phrase: "I am learning Chinese for an year and I still can't understand anything"... damn you Duo, gtfo.
