If think about it, Darth Vader and the Emperor are treating Luke like he is an assassin trained by Obi-Wan to take them down. This is basically the instance that Darth Vader actually sets a trap for anyone, since he doesn't really know Luke's capabilities, he was actually extremely cautious(for him) in the Carbonite Chamber. His intention was to manuever Luke into the Carbonite chamber, and freeze him. when Luke escaped the chamber, Vader is left with disarm the threat, through the fight he realizes that Luke is not fully trained and most certainly not the threat Obi Wan once was, and he switches to persueding Luke as soon as he disarms Luke, Vader has to honor the threat that Luke potentially is. Luke is a military threat so family dynamics is not really the right viewpoint to look at that scene with. The Father-son talk during The Return of the Jedi is a much more appropriate family dynamic moment.

Turning Red was really relatable as a child of immigrants. I lost a possible romantic relationship because I felt like it wasn’t gonna be accepted but it was completely natural for my friends. That scene where Mei had to suppress her anger is a toxic part of elder respectability culture - you suppress a justified part of yourself to keep the peace but at the cost of your inner voice. It does make it harder to stand up for yourself as an adult but it can be done. These things are skills and it’s never too late to learn them!

"... Luke looks deceived"
Well, aparently when they shoot the scene with the actor in the Darth Vader suit, he was saying "Obi-Wan killed your father" as a way to trick everyone in the studio so the big revelation happened on the premiere, and no one could tell before (the movie was shot over a year before)

Turning red was exactly what happened to me as a kid
And when I finally thought I was over it, it happened again as an adult
At this point it isn’t fear for a kid but clearly control and manipulating

In the turning red, I felt that Stephanie literally read me. Like I was like that for a while but later on I let myself feel what I needed to feel, and try not to let my parents tell me what I should do or can do. Still working on it, but turning red is a movie that speaks to me as a Vietnamese American.

This was really cool to see. I remember I took Family Communication in college and it was so cool the things I had learned. We literally had to choose a movie, watch it and use the tools we learned to analyze it. I learned about the Heroes, Scapegoats, Enablers etc. And also that you can't resolve issues in 30 min sitcoms LOL (but we know it's tv so we take what we can get)
