i just realized Calvin is The Blob

This movie gave me anxiety

He doesn’t have the intelligence you’ve described though? He uses the coolant to drink, something animals are famously known to need. If your cat drank your water you wouldn’t accuse it of trying to kill you. And it gets around the ship by its senses I guess? Probably not some form of genetic telepathy?

It's funny that this situation is highly dependant on the gloves not being cut proof, which, surprise surprise, they are in real life

Calvin’s design implies his species was active when mats had water. I think it’s an aquatic creature, would probably be pretty catastrophic after it reaches earth but if it’s limited to water I think humanity would eventually find a way the deal with the threat

But why is it so mean

It’s sad that this isn’t a prequel to venom. The two that wrote the movie also wrote a script for venom. It would be so awesome to see the symbiotes shown evolving and becoming apex predators and spreading around on debris caused by celestial bodies colliding with one another resulting in them landing on an early habitable mars leading to the martians extinction/sacrifice by cooling down their core making the planet inhabitable over a course of time ensuring the end of “Calvin” and the others like him and the continuation of other life in the solar system and surrounding star system and have this movie show how resilient the symbiotes are and how much of a threat they can be after Calvin hibernated for over 3 billion years on the harsh Martian surface rather than the lazy BS writing marvel uses. “Oh an angry elder god made the klyntar cause he was woken up from a space nap.” Sucks that Sony is held back by shitty marvel writers and disneys dumb bullshit ideas that fans hate. I’m glad marvel is dying those dumb fuckers deserve to have their empire crumble.

Can wings actually even help you propel yourself through a ship with no gravity? I also really don't like the explanation of how it just happens to be so smart basically within seconds. I get the whole brain pattern absorption theory but still I feel like that wouldn't hold water very well for reality. Like he said, without a "roseta stone" essentially, how the hell would you even begin to interpret the information you have just acquired? I mean, really? More or less instantly are able to decipher it? Meh lol.

—Konclusion: Don’t Send Idiots Into Space

The thing that let this movie down was that Calvin was just completely indestructible. An nnkillable enemy with no weaknesses makes for a somewhat boring narrative.

Could Calvin have learned hate? It was a learning organism, and looked like maybe Calvin was calm and stable, then shocking him. Goes up to the mouse and the mouse snips at him so he kills.. maybe breaking his hand was a defense mechanism

According to Isaac Arthur SFIA our own radiation decay is the biggest issue about hibernation.

Bit too many "diverse" people in this movie. Not very realistic given everyone's job.

My theory is that Calvin is a biological weopen made by Martians that went wrong or by another group of aliens that where at war and wanted all life on mars gone .

Just look at Calvin he break all the rules of natural biological species. He clearly doesn't fit in any ecosystem as he eat none stop act plant like consumes water and oxygen is fully muscle mixed with brains and senors I wouldn't call that foggy vision eyes . He grows in mass after every meal gets smarter and stronger and adapts to the environment.


All these thing look like a virus . Viruses that always consumes and multiples in this case Calvin multiples his own cells that from his body . Viruses also grows stronger and adapt the more people they infect in this case Calvin eats them (just like a virus would if you don't cure it it will consume every healthy cell in your body until you die or kill it ) .

And for the last scene ... that could have been Calvin looking for symbiosis as there was no reason to saver the pilto . Because Calvin should not know that the people where every returning to earth so for him to randomly not kill the pilto is not a from of saving food . More likely that after the whole survival mode where it was desperate for body warmth it used it brain again and saw humans for more than just food does wrapping it self around the pilto but not injuring him as the pilto showed no distress until the asains where opening the pod .

But earth should be fine as millions will doe but Calvin will die from the hoards of unknown viruses and disease the wrold has to offer him yet alone parasites as he just consumes everything raw.

You might want to reconsider your theory regarding the sun going supernova, because it never will. It would have to be over 8x the radial size.

I understand it's an unknown lifeform but like don't shock it and if you intend to harm it have a backup plan such as you know an EXPLOSIVE.

By radiation, sure. Which would take hours, and also assumes you are not in sunlight.

If Calvin was getting smarter through the movie, wouldn't it have realized that this was all a misunderstanding? I don't think it's that smart, I think it's a very clever animal on par with any Earth predator, but not as smart as a person. If it were that smart, then at some point it's actions would be purely malicious, and I don't think that's the point of this movie. I think that if all had gone well, Calvin could have remained relatively tame, we are pretty good at keeping individual predators friendly after all.
