Hello everyone! This is my cover of the famous piano arrangement by Animenz - "unravel" from Tokyo Ghoul. The original video, uploaded by Animenz in 2015, has more than 67 million views to date. I'm quite sure that almost everyone in the anime piano community has watched that video. That performance elevated one of the best songs of all time to a higher level, and has left a lasting impression on me ever since I first watched it.

This arrangement is the epitome of virtuosity, some highlights include:
- 00:34 Almost impossible octave jumps in the right hand. Even after hours of practice, every leap is still a gamble to hit those notes.
- 01:44 The left hand passage that seems to shout "articulation" at me every time I play it
- 01:58 The cadenza-like bridge, like the classical counterparts, puts a spotlight on the pianist.
- 02:33 The emphasis on proper voicing ("three hand technique").
- 02:41 Rapid, repeated notes that appear throughout the final chorus, including the part at 03:13 where it's almost impossible to play with speed.
- 03:20 The jumps in the left hand taking "repetition side step" to a whole new level.

One of the best qualities about Animenz's arrangements, that I think distinguishes them from other technically challenging arrangements, is that they're very comfortable to play for a pianist. The runs are intuitive and the jumps are perfectly manageable with practice. The pieces have just the right balance between repetition and variation that make them very easy to understand and memorize.

This video is by no means a perfect performance, but with enough practice I hope to achieve enough consistency to be able to play this in public.
