I'm unintentionally taking part in non-fiction November as my copy of Tolstoy and the Purple Chair came through & I'm planning on starting it as soon as I finish my current reads.

Great selections, Britta. I should revisit Joan Didion. I read Slouching….many, many years ago. My non-fiction plans are to read Brian’s just published book, Macarthur’s Bloody Butchers, and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book, The Message. Hope you are doing well.

Thank you Britta! I have The Pillow Book still to read after you recommended it last year and have just pulled it off my shelf. AI truly chills me but I will have a think about looking further into this. My current non fiction read is bookish. It is Mutual Appreciation Society by Mo Moulton. It looks at the lives of the author Dorothy L Sayers and her her group of the fellow Oxford female graduates helped change the world for us in the early 20th century. I was drawn to this after reading Square Haunting on a similar topic. These female academic pioneers are hugely inspirational to me. Blessings to you x

Talk about a brain full of holes… I read Gossamer Years years ago and remember zip, except that it wasn’t an easy read for me.

I am searching my shelves for The Pillow Book which I had forgotten I own. Currently reading a book The Mean Streak by Rick Morton a journalist writing about a shameful period in recent times. Robodebt a scheme designed to raise money for the Government by recovering real or imagined overpayment of unemployment benefits. Not a good description of the book which is amazing in its depth and breadth of this time and the findings of the royal commission which resulted. Hope we can connect this week as now have my Voxer sorted.

I picked up Dorothy Parker in Hollywood at your suggestion and am really enjoying it.

Gossamer Years reminds me of tthe Pillow Book we read last year (year before last?), and I've got it on my list. Probably from you mentioning it earlier.
Code Dependent sounds interesting so I may check that out too.
I have really fallen off my non-fiction reading (not buying though!), and I need to make a dent in my shelves in 2025.

I'm the same, I'm reading nonfiction all through the year, but Nonfiction November gives me the opportunity to focus almost exclusively on that genre. I have a big pile of possibilities and I'm very excited. And actually you could easily fulfill the prompts, because the words chosen are so flexible and your interpretation is all that counts anyway.
