Why your gpu crashing under load and how to fix it

Hi, Im having the same issue with my GPU, where it would crash after the PC updates the GPU driver.
Ive already tried to boot it in safe mode and used DDU to uninstall previous driver and fresh install.
Updated MOBO bios, and flashed vbios ):

I have a quick question about temps, which anyone can answer-
Hot spot and memory temperatures. I have a palit 3080 and when under load my GPU temp is about 63°c, hot spot is as 74°c and memory temperature is 80/82°c. Is this normal? I ask as I've been getting a lot of crashing recently. No artifacts, just blacks screen for a few second or a straight up crash. Thanks guys

ITs XFX not AMD :D. Garbage cooler, good job XFX. I have few rx 6600 xt with 96-100C on hotspot. Thermal old thermal paste was good, with new, the same result. ASUS card RX 6600 XT did not suffer for bad cooler.

would something happen but under heavier load if a graphics card had a thermal pad not making contact with the heatsink?

If I open a card up for repasting I just try to save the original thermal pads so this isn’t an issue.

I’ve done that before. 1.5mm pads are too thick for the THICC III Ultra on the VRAM modules.

I actully have the same ''issue'' on my Sapphire RX 5700.. on my stock cooler I have over 30c dif between hot spot and the regular gpu temp.. but I put the grapic card under water full block, not an issue any longer.

That said, the Navi gpu's is designed to pull as much heat they can, 110c on the hot spot is not a problem, says AMD.. but I don't like 110c stuff in my PC.

Anyhow.. I will always use water cooling for now on on my GPU's, full block.. good investment if you gonna have em 5+ years and OC'ed.

Can't find my mx4, it's going to have to be my thermalright paste I've had for 10 years. The pads are dirty, but it's a 1080. Had a super glue back on one of the coils because I broke it off.
All the components have thermal epoxy on top of them I can't scrape off.
Maine plastic shroud over the aluminum heatsink has a 4 by 3 hole that I cut in it comedone going to need to electrical tape over

The person put the wrong size pads in the area around the gpu

AMD cards have the hotspot probe on another location, thats why we see high temps.

wooow so 61 C is high i recently bought a used zotac 1060 temps are usually in between 60 -70 when i stress test it on furmark does that mean i have a faulty gpu oh and ideal temperature stays in between 30s or 40s

How do you fix a crashing issue on a Asus Phoenix GTX 1650 it passes furmark heaven benchmark and all them but as soon as I load up the game it’ll crash within 10 minutes

Absolutely mesmerizing watching you work on these cards. I cannot imagine the magnitude of experience you've accumulated over the years. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get into GPU repairs and where does one start to learn, that just finds the craftmanship interesting?

I bought a cheap msi 6700xt that had consistent crash at red dead redemption 2 benckmark, in swamp area, while the old 5700xt showed super stable for years. No instability in other games, glad it showed at all, ive returned it. Now running a rock solid 6800 but living in third world countries while trying to build and keep a decent gaming pc is a hazardous endeavour.

Another great video. I loved the Nvidia XFX Cards. I had an XFX 7950GT in my first build. It was a great GPU.

I have two 970's and both gets blackscreen in windows sometimes at 10 Seconds sometimes 10 minutes . Thermalpads and paste changed.

The one gets after 15 seconds in furmark 720p a orange screen and pc reboots and the other gets a grey screen in furmark.

Updated the bios and the drivers but didnt help

PSU is good, and pcb looks good also. What can be the problem? (No artifacts)

I have vega56 that doesnt work. When bootin up the pc, the card powers up aggressively spinning fans for a while then it just lights up but doesnt show up or give any video. Any ideas what might be wrong? Is it possible to ship oversees for you to look at?

I just replaced my thermal pads. Was very careful to make sure everything was perfect. Powered it on. Got artifacting and dead gpu. Nothing looks messed up so no idea what happened. Paste and pad contact was perfect. I guess just bad luck.

AMD cards have a really big gap between GPU Core and Hotspot, it's not always something wrong.
Then i am here, pissing myself because my hotspot is 10°c higher than the core..

And i remember, the 5700 XT XFX cards run like garbage because of all the plastic used, i'd go so far saying removing the plastic shrouds would result in better temps.

I've got a question.. I've always been an EVGA fan as far as build hardware goes.. I certainly have a EVGA 2080 Ti XC Ultra 2 that I bought new back in early 2020 when I built my rig and it's been a fantastic card.. Come next year I'm thinking of building a new updated rig with the latest and greatest.. Now that EVGA is no longer making NVIDIA GPU's, what manufacture would you recommend? Who uses the best components?

What GPU would you recommend because I'm in dead end. A 4070 ti or 7900 xt and what brand to choose. Your opinion will matter the most
