I love Sicily because my grandparents on both side came from Messina, I’ve visited Sicily two times and meet my relatives there, very memorable experience. It’s been too long since I was there and hopefully will return again soon.🇺🇸🇮🇲

Something many of you don't understand is that there isn't a homogeneous "proper Italy" and then a distinct Sicily. Naples is a lot more similar to Sicily than to Florence, in southern Calabria and southern Apulia (so in "proper Italy") they literally speak Sicilian language (we have many regional languages but everybody can speak Italian). It's totally nonsense to think Naples isn't with Sicily but with northern Italian regions when the regional language is more similar to French than Italian or there is German-speaking people. Sicilians feel less Italian because they are in a island, but they are just southern Italy with no difference to Calabria. The real outsider of Italy is Sardinia, they are still Italian but with a really distinct culture, they aren't southern Italy but a unique region.
