I remember I went to a chess tournament as a kid and was vs a really smart player. I wasn’t that good at chess and he was absolutely destroying me.
Near the end of the game when I had 2 pieces left to his 12 I saw a way out. I lured him into forcing a permanent stalemate with me. Once he did the last move I said good game and showed my hand for the shake, his face was priceless. He spent the next 20 minutes stating he won and that’s not how the game works until one of the tournament staff came over and said yep, that’s a draw.
I’d never felt that level of accomplishment before in my life. He was at least 20 times better at me in chess and I still managed to destroy him 😂.
You got points in the tournament for winning and half points for drawing. That draw cost him a chance at first place.
