It makes me so teary with happiness hearing about a 12+ child cherishing a childhood plushie.

I have a stuffed dalmatian named Delilah that came from a garage sale when I was 3-4. She seemed so big back then. At about 6, a foster puppy named Mia nearly decapitated her. My mom sewed her neck back up, though.

A few years later, at 8, I moved from California and visited at 13, I accidentally left Delilah at a family friend's house. I only realized when we were over 200 miles away (since I was told to pack Delilah in my bag, I assumed she was packed away like usual).

A couple years later, I was able to visit California and retrieve her once and for all. She no longer had her hard plastic nose (haven't found a replacement), but she was back with me.

Fast forward to just 2 months ago, I had to sew Delilah's neck back up since the stitching was years old. I'm now 24 and Delilah is 21. I still sleep with her, but I used her more like an arm pillow rather than for comfort. Some people will always cherish their plushies.

Outstanding narration, Did not find the man's name in the description but the man is a master storyteller/voice actor. The author is extremely talented as well. That said, this story may be a bit tame in some opinions like those seen in this comment section. I found that disconcerting.
To see the lack of empathy from fellow human beings should be cautionary but it does not appear
to be understood by some of us. I find that very troubling as the current state of these here United States is not far from this very situation only worse. The Biden admin promoting the invasion and destruction are acts of high treason & sedition. It's not even being hidden. It's very hard to miss unless you are completely blind. Millions of military-age foreign troops have already been placed in position for the complete destruction and genocide of the American people. It goes far deeper than that but I have made my point. Now for the message I wanted to share. I am only a third of the way through this story and the lack of unity solidarity and compassion by so many people in the story & the comments are spot on. If we don't find those qualities this is what you can expect only far worse. I like the way this story conveys the emotion. If you shy away from that aspect you are 100% of the problem & can expect to get no sympathy. Only a coward runs from his own feelings.
Remember that or you will be a victim of it.

I don't want to read the post's because I'm afraid to have the story revealed. I'm confused. Who is this amazing author? Please respond. Why isn't this obvious? I've searched for the answer but couldn't find who wrote this. Never encountered a novel where the author wasn't named, let alone unsearchable. This is crazy. Please help. Update: Title is; One Second After by William Forstchen, published in 2009 and a movie is planned. The narrator is amazing! What's his name? Title, Author and narrator should be mentioned upfront but thanks for making this available. Update: narrator's name is Joe Barrett.

The two idjets is what we call our Labadors as well. 😂😂
The Border Collie is quite clever. But her brother's are dumb as round bricks sometimes. Ive lost count of how many times they tried to play with skunks and porcupines.🤦‍♂️

I guess I've read too many of these stories (always fascinating) but John seems awfully slow on the uptake about what's going on. It's been nearly 24 hours and they're just still talking with no sense of urgency whatsoever. It's pretty hard to square with him being a military man.
I like the narrator though and really appreciate the upload - thanks!

The protagonist is ex military, has given a lecture on the dangers of an EMP but has zero emergency preparedness and his go- to weapon is a black powder pistol. Also, the part where Makalah feels the need ro tell him that checking her out was normal for a man when he's under stress...😶

I like the story a lot and I really appreciate the opportunity to access free audio books. If I am not enjoying it I simply stop listening. I see no point in making crappy comments it doesn't seem that those who spend the time to tear down the story and or author have nothing better to do. I suggest if you dont enjoy the story stop listening.

This excellent tale had a foreword by Neut Gingrich and an afterword by an Admiral , who agreed that EMP was the #1 threat to the nation today. This was before they had "white rage" or "toxic masculinity "😮

daughter's voice ..why? We don't really care what she has to say .. people are doing that input more and more in stories .. not needed ..voices any beside the main narrator.

The reality of this story is so strong,it pulls you in so you feel it. I worked in 2 convelesent hospitals years back helped with the patients sometimes when a nurse was not available ( I was a domestic but had a small nurse aid experiance) I know the insides of hospitals and their workings, and the horror of something like an EMP happening is horrorifying,This scene of discription.....would be true what would happen and worse.Pray it never happens to you or family friends or people you know.PPS It is instintual to head for the hills due to the great earth desasters Also due to growing food in valleys or flat land can be dangerious, fire flood and desasters of all kinds ,but every time people head for the hills to get away from it
