What about those who are neither interoceptive nor exteroceptive ? Those great wanders 😂 who keep jumping most of the time from one thought to another regardless of what’s happening internally or externally !

thank you. great explanation. also from my experience best for splitting interception and exteroception is classical yoga practice or tai chi, when you keeping awareness on your body sensation and breathing while focusing on the outside world; your posture, spot in front of you etc... not talking here about acrobatic😀but yoga with awareness which is a meditation in movement in her traditional sense

I finally had a focused few hours to listen and i wish i had capacity to take notes. The biggest take away is awareness inside vs. outside of my skin for meditation. That combined with do i want to be relaxed or more alert after my meditation AND this can be achieved in short or long form is blowing my damn mind huberman lab!
So much wow.

Damn man! I'm loving this a lot. The explanation of exteroceotion vs interoception is just briliant. Many of us, as you've mentioned have an idea of meditation as an "interoceptive" activity - sitting with eyes closed. But seeing it almost as a tool where we can teach ourselves both the interoception and exteroception, and in a way help us reach the balance where we can slide along the specter depending on the situation has never even occured to me. And thinking about it that way makes sooo much sense. Perhaps what many of need is not a meditation, but "reversed meditation". Thank you for everything you do! Because of you the world is much better place. ❤️

Wrong there is a third eye, its called the pineal gland and its receptive to light. It is still used in some reptiles for vision. Anyone who has done proper third eye meditations knows you can activate it triggering a physical sensation somewhat similar to the flexing of a muscle similarly how the pituitary gland can be flexed, along with other glands connected to chakras if done correctly.

I appreciate that I'm not neophyte meditator... I'm not convinced by your theory about the 'third eye' i.e. using the centre of the forehead as the concentration object. In my experience, there is a point in the development of meditation practice that an enjoyable sensation 'arises' spontaneously at this point in the centre of the forehead. A series of pleasant sensations then arose which follow what are described in traditional Indic systems as chanels, or in traditional Chinese medicine as meridians.

As there seem to be a high correlation between acupuncture points (which are found on meridians) and nodal points on the fascia system, I believe that these sensations are closely linked with somatosensory perception (as opposed to interception, which I would say is more to do with sensory awareness of nerve endings which branch from the vagus nerve). Interestingly, there are a large number of nerve endings embedded in the fascia and seem to play a key role in the mind/body connection. I would therefore argue that these class of sensations are to do with a heightened awareness of the body/mind system.

When these sensations have become established, the sensation on the forehead becomes an enjoyable object of concentration. When attention is resting on the sensations at this point, these sensation grow and it becomes very easy to stabilise the mind state.

IMHO If you are in chronic pain do not use internal method use external. This will help rewire an overactive CNS /ANS. Great video really enjoyed it.

Been meditating for 20 years since having spine surgery (hit by a drunk driver). Meditation has helped me recover from injuries faster. Since I run every week. It helps me be more connected to my body. I usually meditate and then stretch. And I'm more aware of what muscles might be tight or usually have my muscles relax more. Last July, I caught 3 variants and developed a lung infection which left me stuck in bed for 45 days. I developed Long Covid Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia from being bed bound. I had to start from zero with my workouts but the decades of Meditation 🧘‍♀️ I believe helped me heal my Autonomic Nervous System Faster. My EP from the Hospital also thinks that Meditation and being an athletic has helped me recover. I wish more people with Long Covid understood how powerful Meditation as another tool for recovery. I'm not aware of any studies other than observations from my specialist. But most people that have PoTS are not doing well and I believe Meditation (coupled with diet of unprocessed , getting morning sunlight, slowly working out with gradually increasing weights) could expedite recovery.
