whaa? This is incredible. I've been a green day fan for almost 15 years and I've never heard/read anything about billie joe being a fan of the clash. He must have done this cus he's a fan of the equals, right? Except that guitar lead was written by Mick Jones (one of the most underrated guitarists in the history of rock n roll...), so he must be into the clash..

As far as punk rock goes, I know billie joe is a big fan of the ramones and husker du, but he has stated several times that he is not that into a lot of punk rock music. That never surprised me... other than the buzzcocks, the dickies, and the replacements (3 bands that didn't really even want to sound like typical punk music), green day doesn't really remind me of any punk bands. The melodies and harmonizing in green day remind me of UK bands from the 60s that played pop, garage rock, and r&b. Stuff like the kinks and the who.

Green Day should do a album of clash and ramones covers
