this song helped me so much mentally when i graduated. still cry every time i listen to it, it just hits home. the way he’s addressing this to “you” makes it feel like it’s truly meant for me, even if it’s obviously not. nonetheless it’s comforting to hear the words you’ve always wished someone would tell you.

Why "Vienna"? This is a capital city of Austria. Is he born there?

I hate this song because it makes so many erroneous assumptions about me and literally cools off my fire when I need to speed it up. For me if I see a hurdle, I get the adrenaline to push through. The way I avoid burn out is by using the last bit of fuel to get over the final hurdle and make it to the finish line. Here it’s saying slow down and pretty much let the fuel run out.

Or at least thats how I interpreted it.

A brief reprieve is fine. Very brief pit stop. But no, his song is not how I worked.

My only concern is that when I strike, I end up burning a bridge.

I am concerned in a way because my process isnt the best for society necessarily, but his strategy leads me to a type of death of stuckness. I like i said I already move at a slow pace. Slowly slowly.

Even so, I went to a gifted school and never got burn out after middle school. I also wasnt a high achiever. I was average. When I fell behind though and needed to strike, and couldnt due to missing resources, shitty guidance counselors, extra stress, it became nightmarish and fell apart.

The moral for me, I guess, is to keep the slow stride, but make sure I have resources! And a good social support network.

And good coping skills again. And reduce stress. Also instead of being average and falling behind, why not try at the beginning to be amazing and then when I fall behind I can catch up because I gave myself some tolerance and lead time
