Tools of Japanese Sword Making, Part 1 - Hand Planes

This is the first in a series of videos describing some of the unique tools used in the making of Japanese swords and associated crafts of sword mounting, polishing, and sword fittings. This video spotlights the kanna or Japanese hand plane. These tools are used in the shaping of scabbards and handles used in the mounting of Japanese swords.
