UPDATE: I mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial that they hadn't put out a download of the latest version of GIMP for MAC users.. They have since released a MAC download! Just visit the GIMP downloads page in the video description.

I've been looking to leave Windows behind and almost there...The final missing piece was an Adobe Animate replacement, which can be found in the superior OpenToonz. I use GIMP instead of Photoshop and Nuke and Houdini for 3d image creation and editing. There's also Blender but I haven't learned it yet.

Just downloaded GIMP for first time. Looks to have a comprehensive array of tools. I must be thick but how do you load an existing library to show files?

when i make a circle i try to make another one or go to fill it in and it immediately disappears!! why?!

A verbal tick: you say "go ahead and..." way too much. Just say the thing you're supposed to do. "Go ahead" says nothing.

Why is my screen doesn't look like yours? When click Edit, I don't see :Preferences." And by the way I am on McBook Pro and using Gimp 2.10. Too bad I can't upload a screen shot of the screen. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not getting all the adjustment details I need such as paintbrush size. Sometimes I need the smallest possible point and sometimes I need larger than the default biggest setting. Also, I'm not getting all the icons on my screen that you have on yours. I was happy with GIMP 2.6.11 but those adjustment features disappeared and that's why I downloaded the newest version. What's wrong? What am I not understanding?

Question, how do you get to group your left tabs so that Brushes, Patterns, Fonts, and Selection Editor are grouped in the lower part of the left pane whereas Layers, Channels, Undo History, and Paths tabs are all grouped on the top part of the left pane as you show them in your video? By the way, I'm using GIMP 2.10.34 version. Thanks and sorry for the long question. 🤔

I just updated from a older version and wanted to have my tool box in the same "order" as my old version. (About 2 versions behind). I have the Legacy pic, but wanted to have each tool set as my old one. Old habit. I tried to drag them around, but unable. Your video is close to what mine was, but not my new Legacy. I enjoyed this video and you are probably the most knowledgable when it comes to GIMP. Thanks and I will go through all your vids.

I haven't got all the way through, but you've done preferences at the beginning. My problem is I have a shiny new 4k res computer and because of my 2160p res all the icons and dialogue are tiny, and they remain tiny in the undocked dialogue boxes which I like to place on my 2nd screen which is 1080p so I can hardly read anything without pressing my nose to the screen! I need a way to increase the size of everything (apart from the image)

I am a new user to gimp and am having trouble deselecting tools. I use control +shift +A , that doesn't work so I go to select and none, but the none is greyed out and is unusable. What am I doing wrong

Wow, thank you so much. I used to use a super simple program called Digital Image Pro and loved it. It was so easy and did what editing I would ever need. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with Win10. GIMP is way more than I'll ever use and I was overwhelmed after downloading it today. Finding your video gave me hope I may be able to figure out some basic editing again. I like to add text and clone areas out of various shots-- a beautiful shot of the Columbia River just loses something with a garbage can in the foreground - LOL. Now to find a jukebox program to replace MusicMatch would be great and I could get rid of my Win7 computer once and for all.

Too late. Only 20 minutes in and I'm completely overwhelmed. 🤣 I did fine for years with "Picture It!" but "NnnooOOOooo" That was too user friendly and wasn't making Microsoft any extra money, so they literally Took It Away! (You forgot to enable your "Grumpy Old Man" filter.)

I've never used GIMP but now I know how to do the basic stuff.

One question: Can I use the Move Tool to move only a selection? I have two squares in the same layer and I want to adjust the position of one of them. The only way to move only one was to cut and paste it into a new layer, then I can move the two layers/squares separately. Maybe that's really the right way: send the object to a new layer, and then move.

What's up with all the ads?!

I follow your instructions and nothing happens. eg cut tool. Select an area and click in that area and it cuts the surrounding area. Nothing happens. I am trying to make a border smaller so I can have a two coloured border and just cant' work out how to do it.
