Hollow Knight- How to Beat Grey Prince Zote

Grey Prince Zote is up there as one of the most annoying bosses in the game. The RNG of his run can be tough along with the little zotelings. Good luck to anybody having trouble with this fight!

This is the hardest dream boss,it’s so unpredictable and unreadable

should I beat him and have him in the pantheons or should I save myself (i kinda wanna b able to say “o yeah I beat pantheon of hallownest WITH zote in it B) )

What works best for me in this fight (i havent beaten him yet tho!) is Unbreakable strength, Shaman Stone, Mark of Pride and Grubsong. If he spawns zotelings try to pick them of immediately, but dont get to distracted. A Desolate Dive will help a lot with the zotelings too. If he spawns the bombs either get in a quick heal or use one shadow spell to quickly get rid of them all. Last tip if he corners you Shadow Dash through him do not try to jump usually he will jump too.

even though its late.. imo zote itselves is not that hard ,it just his minions the one that interupted me the most when i tried to dodge zote's attack.

I could whack him... if he'd stop flooding me with Zotelings.

I unironically love this fight and zotes character in general, because even after bretta leaves, zote just keeps getting stronger, like it went from how bretta thinks of him to how he thinks of himself

I've beaten Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring 3 times each.
And I'm confirming that Zote is the hardest of them all.

I struggled a lot with this boss until I developed a tactic that saved me a ton of health and time. When Zote teleports through the floor, wait about a half second, then use Descending Dark. Not only do you gain immunity to his shockwaves and big fat butt, you also deal a nice chunk of damage to him, and should have enough time to get away before he barges into you.

This boss is so annoying when doing pantheon of sage all bindings I wish I didn’t save him

I just gave up, the soul tyrant was 10x less frustrating than this boss. My nail takes 2 hits to kill the zotelings and it’s so annoying how rng based he is.

I used quickslash unbreakable strength shaman stone and stalwart shell and beat him first try by tanking. It’s very effective

I dunno why do many people regard this boss as really diffucult since or annoying since i thinks that hes actually somewhat easy. Even though the rng can be bad, his attacks are telegraphed well enough and his noises are distinct for each attack. The thing i definitely got hit by the most is the flail, the hitbox is really big and it can be easy to trip up and fall when pogo-ing. A couple tips i can give is to try and stay somewhat close to him, if you go too far away it can be hard to tell which attacks are coming, and a good moment to deal lots of damage is when hes doing both his summon attacks, he stands still for quite a good while so you can usually get 5+ hits on him. Also using desolate dive on him during the shadow dive can make it easy to dodge it as well as doing good damage.

What's really funny about this fight is that this isn't even the real Zote. This is Bretta's fantasy of Zote. XD

Here's some things I observed about his flailing attack

1. Dodging by Shade Dashing through him woud need to be extremely accurate because if he's still too far from you when approaching, even if you do go all the way through him, he turns around and faces you in a single frame with his sword still flailing ahead of him. This means that if not done accurately enough, you can dash through him, but his instant turn around and large hit box will make it so that he hits you anyway once the Shade Cloak deactivates.

2. While he usually has slight decrease in traction when he turns around, giving you time to react accordingly if you do dash through him, if you're up against the wall or close to it when you do, he'll stop sooner because he runs into it, allowing him to start actually accelerating towards so soon, you can't even jump out of the way. And the really fast startup, speed and acceleration of the move itself is literally impossible to jump out of the way of if you're too close anyway.

I may have forgotten one other thing but yeah. I'm currently on what I think is the 5th version of him where every single one of his attacks that come from him (not his minions) does 4 mask damage. It's really annoying.

I've spent like two hours trying the beat this guy in that girls house I have 3 candles lit. It's so annoying there is always something you have to dodge and uggh

Ok, but how do I beat zote the mighty in the coliseum?

Is there any way to reduce damage taken in Hollow Knight? Bc I’m doing the Zote fight where it has the subtitle “Mysterious” as the top one, and I’ve collected all of the mask shards and have Unbreakable Heart equipped, and even that is not enough from him killing me in 3 hits. I have Mark of Pride and Longnail so I don’t need to get too close, Quick Focus if I need to heal when he is down, and Unbreakable heart so I can have that little extra bit of health, and playing it super safe and I still die so easily. This vid covers the basics of the fight, but seriously I need strats and I need them before this fight drives me to drinking.
