UPDATE 20 January, Response from Gulf Air
I've had another frank and unprompted call from the A/CCO and his team. This was not a "we fixed everything, it's all better now!" call, but rather just a deeper dive into the issues at hand. As we've just passed through New Years (and where I am now, just gearing up for Lunar New Year), this is clearly not the most productive time of the year, but I do have to say I'm encouraged. I would remind my audience that Gulf Air originally reached out to me via email 2 days after this video was published- long before its views took off, I'm not sure who it needs to be said to, but this responsiveness (regardless of the tone of the video or the size of the airline) is decidedly uncommon. While I'm not holding my breath for any specific outcome, it's very clear to me that the message has been heard quite loud and clear and there is a team actively working on root causing it piece by piece. I look forward to keeping in touch with them and learning of any adjustments that may come in the future.
UPDATE 30 December, Response from Gulf Air
As I have mentioned in many videos in the past, I think Service Recovery is a difficult but worthwhile process that far too many companies have lost touch with in this day and age. I'm a firm believer that even some of the worst customer service experiences can be turned around. A few days after I published this video, I received an email from Gulf Air Guest Support. Attached to it was a fairly run of the mill letter that acknowledged the short comings without going into extensive detail. As you would expect, the letter assured me that customer care is a focus of the company and it asked for a contact number from me to have a further conversation.
A couple of days later, I received a call from Dhaz Hunjan, the Chief Commercial Officer at Gulf Air. The conversation was exceedingly pleasant and was much more frank and honest than I was expecting, which I appreciate. I was told they just wanted to touch base before the holidays and that after their investigation into the flight details, they'll be in touch again in the new year, which I welcomed.
The only thing I can say for sure that will not come out of this is a purely sponsored 'review' follow up video- you know how I feel about those. But besides that, I am as open as they are and would consider making another video (not a review) and/or flying them again in the context of service recovery, social media impact on airlines, how the airlines deal with content creators, etc. At this point these aren't ideas as much as they are thoughts- and it's all dependent of course on the next steps that Gulf Air takes. But I have to admit, reaching out as quickly as they did and then addressing the problems as frankly as they did... this response is going as well as one could expect and I'm curious as to what dialogue will follow. I'll keep y'all posted.

ОтветитьI have bad experience this aircraft!!! I never fly again a gulf airlines .. During the flight the stewardess pour me water 💦 when serves food in the isle.. I dont have clothes in my hand carry bag... They give me a tissue paper to dry..

ОтветитьIt is one thing that the food does not taste well. You might argue that that’s an individual perception and that other people may find it perfectly edible.
But someone must have actively decided that it is OK to reuse the pillows and blankets from previous passengers. I doubt that this was the crew, looks more like a cost-cutting idea from higher up.
I’m sorry you didn’t experience the best out of Gulf Air.. but as we all know that not everyday is a perfect day, please don’t let this once experience define the whole Gulf Air experience. I hope you can fly again with Gulf Air and see the amazing and true experience and hospitality they can deliver to the customers. Keep up the good content!

ОтветитьSo without the incident that occured, it is interesting to say that the over quality is subpar, or the fact tha this flight was a bad flight experience. I had the same thing happened to me in SQ flight from SYD > SG where the service ,food was extremely rushed.

ОтветитьAbsolutely agree, just flew in economy with them from Manchester to Bangkok - while the new Dreamliner looks the part, the service and food - what little there was of it, was dreadful- all we received on the evening flight was a sort of vegetable pastie after around 30 minutes (where was the full evening meal!) then around 5 hrs later, an even worse breakfast- very poor show

ОтветитьActually, I don't think they have learnt anything. Because recently I was travelling from Dhaka to Dublin by Gulf Air with two transits in Manama and London, respectively. All my boarding passed were given at the Dhaka Airport. During the boarding at Manama Airport, Gulf Air staff asked my final destination while holding my European passport and boarding passes in hand. When he heard that I was going to Dublin then he asked for a residence card. I told that I am an EU citizen and Dublin is the capital of Ireland, which is an EU country. So I do not need visa/residence card to go there. He just told me to go and sit in the waiting area. After 25 mins later, he came to me asking again to give some sort of card. I said, "How can I give you if I do not any and actually, I do not need any." I didn't even believe me. Then asked why I was going there, what I am doing in Dublin. I answered all his questions and told him please go and check your system about EU passports. After 10 mins, he just waved his hand and told me "OK, go!" What kind of behaviour is this? I was surprised. Then I asked the person who was scanning my boarding, "What was the problem?" He told "we were checking your passport and visa." Come on! I do not have any visa, and I don't need a visa to go to Ireland. How can you check visa if I don't have any. This was a complete disgrace and ignorance. For their ignorance and harassment, I asked for an explanation. The guy shouted me saying I don't give explanation. Ask Gulf Air staff. The Gulf Air staff who stopped me, took me to the waiting area again and took pictures of my passport and boarding card. He told me he would not give any explanation. If I want, I can call the Irish embassy. Why should I call the Irish embassy? They stopped me. Does this really make sense. Then he said, "Do I want to fly or stay straned in Bahrain. Just a threat 😮. I said, "No, I don't want to be straned here. He said, "Then you should go. So I was on board without any explanation. So the only thing I was so offended when he said that he doesn't give any explanation. I was their customer, and there were nothing wrong with my travel documents. I will not buy these shameful behaviours with my money in the future.

ОтветитьImagine you were travelling in a Coach with business class! Who says you cannot film aeroplanes on the runway while taking off! I think the purser had a bad day and was spilling on you but the food was also looking limp.

ОтветитьOnce i flew to the Philippines with Kuwait Airways...from London and gge service was so bad ..my seat was near the toilets ..wuth faulty doors the smell of urine was so bad..and in economic class if you fo mot take a couple of bootles of water , you die with dryness they do not even offer you a glass of water...Never Again..
ОтветитьGulf air in 80 and 90s were good they comparable with BA who at the time were No 1 . However the decline was rapid with huge number of employees leaving due to wages and conditions . Sadly they tried tore over but failed . It’s clear the airline is in need of investment

ОтветитьI think you were right to say “never again” as I did in 2001, and will never fly by them if they were the last airline flinging in the world.
From my experience they are the worst in the Gulf.

ОтветитьIt is reassuring that they reached out but I suspect the problems are more deep rooted and require a thorough overhaul - it should not matter where you are seated - cleanliness and attentive service is de riguer - if you do travel with them again - they will be sure to have you flagged up on the manifest for special treatment - I appreciate your frank and objective review - it's always good to disclose/declare prejudices up front - will watch the rest of your videos
