Actually, the pickle in the Christmas tree is a German tradition, or at least that's what I learned while taking German. But my aunts family does it.

I used to work at a year-round Christmas store, and were sold lots of Christmas Pickle ornaments. Also, lots of Santa keys to hang on doorknobs so Santa could enter chimneyless homes

The pickle ornament hidden in the Christmas tree is a German tradition. My family used to do it too but then whoever found it was supposed to hide it again and then the next person to find it again got to open a present. I used to love doing that every year and I wondered why we did it so the one year I asked my dad and he told me that it's a German tradition that he liked so we started doing it.
