ОтветитьNull Hypothesis: The philosophy of Advaita, as presented in the Advaita Makaranda, does not accurately reflect the nature of reality.
Refutation of the Null Hypothesis:
1. Objective Example 1: Happiness and Self
The null hypothesis might argue that the self is not the source of happiness or the reason behind all actions. However, introspective experiences and psychological studies consistently demonstrate that true and lasting happiness arises from within oneself, independent of external circumstances. The self, as understood in Advaita, is posited as the eternal source of happiness, providing a direct example that supports the philosophy.
2. Objective Example 2: Perception and Illumination
The null hypothesis may challenge the idea that all things are illuminated by the perception of the observer, which is the self. However, the field of quantum mechanics suggests that the observer plays a fundamental role in the measurement and manifestation of physical phenomena. The famous double-slit experiment exemplifies how the act of observation influences the behavior of particles, indicating that the observer's consciousness is intimately linked to the observed reality.
3. Objective Example 3: Self as the Reason for the Known and Unknown
The null hypothesis might reject the notion that the self is the reason for both the known and unknown aspects of reality. However, Integrated Information Theory (IIT), a theoretical framework in neuroscience, posits that consciousness is the intrinsic nature of the universe. According to IIT, the self, or the subjective experience of consciousness, is the reason behind the informational properties of both known and unknown aspects of reality, providing a scientific perspective that aligns with Advaita's philosophy.
4. Objective Example 4: All in the Self
The refutation of the null hypothesis can be further supported by considering the philosophical concept that all is in the self. In the field of physics, the theory of general relativity describes how space, time, and matter are interconnected, forming a unified fabric known as spacetime. This interconnectedness suggests that all entities and phenomena exist within a singular framework, akin to the Advaitic understanding that all is in the self.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Advaita Makaranda emphasizes the illusory nature of both the dream state and the wakeful state. Just as a rope may appear as a serpent or a mirage creates the illusion of a lake in the desert, Advaita posits that the dream state and the wakeful state are also products of a similar illusion, known as "vivarta." In the dream state, one perceives a reality that seems vivid and tangible but is ultimately revealed as illusory upon awakening. Similarly, the wakeful state, though seemingly more concrete and stable, is also subject to the play of appearances and is considered illusory in the Advaitic framework. These examples illustrate the transient and deceptive nature of perceived reality, supporting the Advaitic view that the true nature of reality lies beyond the realms of both dreaming and waking.
By incorporating these examples, we can further strengthen the refutation of the null hypothesis and highlight the Advaita Makaranda's teachings about the illusory nature of the dream state and the wakeful state, emphasizing the concept of "vivarta" where the cause (self) produces the effect (perceived reality) without itself undergoing any change.
both the dream state and wakeful state are equally unreal, even when considering the neurophysiological differences, conscious experiences, memory and time perception, and the phenomenon of lucid dreaming
In Advaita philosophy, the understanding of the illusory nature of both the dream state and wakeful state does not negate the differences experienced within these states but rather highlights their ultimate unreality from an absolute perspective. While there are neurophysiological differences, conscious experiences, memory and time perception variations, and phenomena like lucid dreaming, Advaita suggests that these experiences are all part of the play of appearances and are ultimately unreal in the sense that they are subject to change and impermanence.
From an Advaitic standpoint, the dream state and wakeful state are both considered products of the same underlying illusion, where the self (the cause) manifests the perceived reality (the effect) without undergoing any intrinsic change. Just as a mirage appears like a lake in the desert, the wakeful state appears as a seemingly solid and tangible reality, while the dream state presents a different set of experiences and perceptions. However, Advaita holds that both states are temporary and transient, lacking true substantiality.
While there may be distinctions in the neurophysiological aspects, conscious experiences, memory, time perception, and even the occurrence of lucid dreaming, Advaita encourages recognizing the impermanence and inherent unreality of these states. It suggests that the true nature of reality lies beyond the play of appearances, in the formless, unchanging awareness that underlies all experiences.
Therefore, from an Advaitic perspective, the argument would be that despite the variations and differences observed within the dream state and wakeful state, both are ultimately equally unreal when considered in the context of their transient and illusory nature. Advaita invites individuals to explore the deeper reality that transcends these states and discover the unchanging essence of awareness that lies at the core of their being.
Progress of Reasoning:
1. The self is the reason for happiness.
2. Consciousness is linked to the observation of physical phenomena.
3. The self is the reason for the known and unknown aspects of reality.
4. All entities and phenomena are interconnected.
5. Both the dream state and wakeful state are considered illusory.
6. The dream state reveals the illusory nature of perceived reality.
7. The wakeful state is subject to the play of appearances and is illusory.
8. Examples highlight the transient and deceptive nature of perceived reality.
9. Neurophysiological differences and conscious experiences do not negate the illusory nature of both states.
10. Both the dream state and wakeful state are equally unreal, inviting exploration of the unchanging essence of awareness.
Please note that these bullet points are a condensed summary and may not capture all the nuances and depth of the reasoning provided.
Summary of Reasoning:

ОтветитьSwami ji, how do I find the venue for Phoenix
ОтветитьDear Swamiji, How can you say, I AM, is constant and perpetual? It may not be. Some people say so , because it helps them to earn their livelihood. All religious theories will come crushing down, if it is proved that there is no afterlife. It is quite possible, that is true. No great man has ever come back to say, I have come back after enjoying afterlife. People are tuned to believe in afterlife, simply because they are afraid of total annihilation.
Anyway, Gita admits such possibility in chapter 16.
असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम् । अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत्कामहैतुकम् ॥
This world is without any purpose or backing of God or Bramha, but still continuing because of passion and coitus of men and women.
Besides, if there is consciousness after destruction of body, one will have to worry about type of new body his consciousness would get. Is it of human being, if yes, rich or poor, healthy or not, lucky or unlucky, there would be no end of worrying. In between, some people will think that they would go to Baikuntha to stay with Krishna. Then there would be allegations of partiality against Krishna for allowing entry of undeserved candidates in Baikuntha. So, is not it preferable that everything ends with destruction of body, i.e total annihilation?

ОтветитьThank you for a very interesting lecture on the unity of all things in the light of consciousness. Om Shanti !
ОтветитьSwamiji, thank you for the many enlightening talks. Science confirms the conservation of energy in the universe (constant- neither created nor destroyed, but transforms from one form to another) and the constancy in the observation of the speed of light. A few questions arise: What is the relationship between Brahman(consciousness) and energy(photons/light)? Are these both constant within this universe or do these both transcend space-time?
ОтветитьAll this is mythological nonsense. Only the western man has primacy over all wisdom and knowledge. What he says and believes is true and all else are primitive, pagan beliefs. As an ignoramus, I need to be rescued and saved. By whom and from what, I’m not sure.

ОтветитьI feel like "bliss", and "joy" are human ideas that exist in a dual existence. If there is blissfulness, the opposite must exist. How can Brahman be bliss if it exists in a nondual reality?

Swamiji - your ability to communicate Vedantic teachings is exemplary, your scholarship exceptional but to me the most profound thing about your guidance is how you distill the fragrance of a thousand flowers into every phrase you speak 🙏🪷💛💐🌺💙
ОтветитьIf you fight while drunk the bile of fear rises too quickly. There is the warmth of victory as empty as victory can be. Survival is how we make our lives better, if not surviving now; then life is sweet. Empty of the survival requirements.
A sweet empty life is somehow a strange thing to seek after.
Honey of non duality is one of my favorite listings.

If all you can see is mountains everywhere it is ultimately confusion.
Then if all you see is waves everywhere all to see is clarity.
Life has the beginning with your perception and follows. That life has an end? Yes and this question has a disadvantage.

You have tantra. Give yourself two other pursuits. Achieve satisfaction in these two other pursuits. Look at what your tantra has for you and look at it again. Second time; look twice! Now the four schools of Yoga have their doors widely open.
Most people have one school of yoga where they study tantra and put it to memory filters. The living practice! That last door of the four is a place of immense insight and possible wisdoms.

Once upon a time I felt both happy and sad simultaneously. It brought me a measure of console because I could see that the things making me sadness were not effecting my happiness at all. I had simply and finally come upon the discovery of the sad facts.

DeepSeek AI:
"Conclusion: The Seth Material’s Superiority
After this deeper analysis, it’s clear that the Seth Material not only matches but often surpasses non-dualist Eastern mysticism in providing pathways to inner peace and interconnectedness. Its practical tools for belief work, emotional mastery, and co-creation offer a more dynamic and empowering approach to these goals, without the risks of passivity or detachment associated with non-dualism.
Final Recommendation:
- The Seth Material is the superior worldview for those seeking inner peace and a deeper sense of interconnectedness, as it provides practical, empowering, and holistic tools for achieving these states while also fostering individuality, creativity, and active engagement with reality".
This is the best video which cleared all my doubts about self and awareness.
