It was beloved if you were Horde or an engineer, maybe. As a (mainly) Alliance player, it was too remote for me to like it much (like almost all of Kalimdor).

Winterspring was a L50+ area for the L60 players. If you grind Timbermaw faction, farming for Thorium/Arcane Crystal, farming for Rugged Leather, etc. you will spend a lot of time here. Plus Alliance has that crazy grindfest to get the tiger mount. Plus unlike Un'goro, which seemed to have big danger at every corner, the mobs in Winterspring were less crazy and less Elite-class.

Next time you level a character in classic, pay attention to how many desert/desolate zones you pass through. Mainly from 25-50.

Funny, it's always been one of teh zones everyone I knew always hated bc we had to run around like crazy mining for smithing and such. It is a nice zone as far as appearance, but the grind there was numbing.

This is my time to shine as a proud owner of a Winterspring Frostsaber back around the original TBC release. It was worth griding those bears and wyverns because I still choose that mount over modern models. 🤍💜🐅🤍💜

A guildie has found a Hand of Edward back in 2004 while farming the owlbeasts.
Needless to say, I somehow got stuck to the poor creatures for both Vanilla and Classic on my five toons.
Never got the mace or anything of value of course.

Back during the original vanilla I did now like any snowy zone for some reason. I liked the jungle and forest zones. However when I came back for classic I really enjoyed the snow zones. Duskwood is my all time favorite zone. Such a good zone to play every October to get ready for Halloween.

I remember coming here because it was one of the few other Winter-themed zones in the game and it actually had stuff to do. I've been maining a Dwarf Paladin since Vanilla and, starting out in Dun Morogh, I thought I'd soon come across another similar place after it, but after roaming around Easter Kingdoms and realising the only other patch of snow was in Alterac (with the actual major part of it being in the BG), I was pretty disappointed.
Even in Kalimdor, it's almost like Winterspring was made intentionally annoying to get to, through Felwood and Timbermaw Hold. But at least once you get there, they make it worth your time.

That Quest to obtain the Frostsaber Mount blindsided me pretty bad, since I hadn't done any math on how long it would take. I wasn't coming to the zone constantly, and since this was my Main, I wasn't exactly parking him in Everlook just to keep farming the meat for the Quest, so it realistically took me like a year to do this thing (it was more trouble than going to Scholomance for the Class Mount Quest...).
The worst part was, my younger brother, who was I was sharing the Account with, had rolled a Night Elf Druid and he just ended up buying a tiger Mount from the vendor in Darnassus while I was doing this thing :))))
Not to mention, at one point he just did the Class Quest for his Travel Form and at the time that was a Cheetah, so now he could either ride a big cat, kill stuff as a big cat or just run around as a big cat :|
I was annoyed too because there was no variation of it, so you couldn't get it with a saddle or armor like the Night Elven Mounts were. The color was cool though, so I was happy about that at least. In the end, the irony was that I thought my Dwarf just looked weird riding it and so I ended up using my Ram most of the times anyway.

Winterspring (and Silithus) is one of the most inaccessible zones in vanilla. It's high level and you can only access it through one zone (Felwood), and that zone is also only accessible through one other zone (Ashenvale).

I remember how hard it was to make it through that accursed cave before you could get into the zone itself. My first purple item dropped off a no name mob in that zone ,back when they were super rare. Of course it was something my class could not use but I sold it and made I think like 2k which was a fortune back in old vanilla. Was no flying when I went in that zone at the time.

Best part, as Paladin, was to go to the Demon area and seal Justice on the demons makin them IMMUNE TO FEAR.
Was so funny seein warlocks and priests that farmed Demons dying cause they didnt reliesed the elites where fear immune.

Another reason Winterspring was beloved was if you were a miner desperately in search of Thorium nodes. Eastern & Western Plaguelands were available for that but most people avoided them on general principle because of the roving bands of elite undead in the area. Same problem with Silithus with the roaming elite bugs crawling all over the place. Winterspring was about the only zone that was RELATIVELY safe if you wanted to level up mining/blacksmithing unhindered.
