I love how even when they didn’t achieve the contract, American builders would be given an insane proposal like “build us a human who can run a marathon in 1 hour, bench press 900 pounds, and swim the English Channel. All on 1,000 calories a day”. And the manufacturers just said “okie dokes”.

The Valkyrie was a beautiful plane, its really sad that once they finished building the prototypes it was obsolete thx to ICBMs.

Actually not obsolete, ICBM is a fire and forget weapon. So if you want to start a nuclear war you can use an ICBM and you cannot call back those ICBM if you suddenly think a nuclear war is not what you really want but If you use a Bomber you can call it back.

Not practical, no longer flying, never going to be operational. Can't outrun the missile defences.

Could not "outrun anything", as in the thumbnail - but when it first flew there was a SHORT period it could outrun any other airplane.
YF-12, Mig-25, and Mig-31 eventually surpassed it's speed (at least briefly for the MIGs), and MOST anti-air rockets were faster.

1) the Concorde (looks similarly by the design)
2) T-Rex (with its tiny arms the plane looks similarly with its tiny front wings)

In 1976 I've seen the XB70 aged 6 years old in reality at Wright Patterson Museum, Dayton and I was impressed at once by the design of that plane! And this impression of design still lasts until today!

You start to appreciate how and why the development of rocket technology occured when it did. It's a lot easier to extend the range and increase the speed of an air craft when you don't need to worry about a return trip.
