7 saum and 284 shehane is popular as well for a competition, and today you have 7prc, 7prcw

7mm is popular, just not in any of the cartridges that are Sammi

Didn't Karamojo Bell kill many elephants shooting with the 7mm family?

If I am hunting from a blind, over a field… my go to is currently the .270 Win. If hunting the woods from a stand or still hunting… it’s the 7mm 08. I reloaded a 154 gr round nose from Hornady ( no longer available)…. The performance on whitetail was excellent out to ~ 300 yards…. All in a fairly light weight package.

the only reason its considered a youth cal is because its chambered in youth rifles but only because alot of ppl think 243 isnt enough...Ive even seen 308 chambered in youth guns, really doesn't mean much

I love my 7MM/08 in 140 gr. Nosler Accubond can’t say enough about that bullet combination it’s great. I do handload and that is for a encore single shot. I do not have any other gun in that caliber but I do have a few in 7MM

If you eliminated all rounds ecept 30-06 and 308 Win class loads, hunters rifles would all be perfect for what they are doing.

To the handloaders out there, try out the 7mm08 with varget or IMR4064, stuff a 162gr ELD-M or 162grA-MAX as close as you can to 2.80" COAL, keep MV around 2700fps maximum and youll be able to punch deep with great expansion up to a 700 yard range on medium game like white tail or black bear. Its such an awesome little cartridge and this simple recipe has yet to disappoint.

Seems 7mm-08 is a fine round. I dont have any experience with it. Think it is a little better than 6.5 for elk size game.

The 6.5 can't beat the 338lapua magnum & the 7mm08 can't hold a candle to the 338LM ,& I shoot hand loads with Lapua Magnum brass I buy them from a company in Montana

The 338lapua magnum is more efficient that any of them & recoil doesn't bother me I have stage 4 Cancer and have had it for 4 years and I still shoot it,

I like my Savage 110BA MDT LSS XL 338 Lapua Magnum, ain't nothing in North America that will beat it I shoot everything from deer to Elk Moose & brown bear & I do long range target shooting and at a 1k yards it hits the target really hard and not like the 6.5 which sounds like a pellet hitting the target 😂

Good talk guys. Absolutely love the spec and tech stuff , super interesting to listen to and not just read. My initial introduction to the 7mm -08rem was awkward to be honest. Short version, bought a bunch of floor raffle tickets for a 30-06 so I could retire my A3-03. I won but was handed a 7mm-08 wtf. I made the adjustment about 12 years ago and there has been less waste and more meat in my freezer since. Big medicine for whitetail. My 08 rides a Boyd's Prairie and wears Sig glass. Sweetheart.

I would think the 7mm would be better than 6.5 on barrel life since you can get a heavier shorter bullet.

I believe the reloading manuels do not take the 7mm rem mag to its potential.

I, myself, believe even a 26" barrel is too short for a 7mm rem mag. But that's just me.....

Firstly I may start by making it KNOWN that anything at all above a 7 x 57 mauser is overkill lower 48 USA wide PERIOD! I've taken, not someone else taken, not a story of a guy etc... I AM THE GUY, that locked down a 1926 lb Bull Bison in Colorado of which I reside with my .243. So that is that, name an animal larger in the lower 48 you cannot. I know this, the 7mm rem magnum dominates the renouned holy grail .30-06 in performance all across the board, in every catagory, including kill time, grain for grain in each bullet weight for weight, no matter how you slice it, and your telling me there is only 1 mil difference at 600 yards with 7mm-08 vs 7mm rem mag? hmm this is a fact that I know, owning BOTH calibers. The 140gr 7mm runs par average at 300+ fps faster than the 140gr 7mm-08 and that is substantial so if it was only 1 mil deviation that WOULD be impressive, but I noticed much different results at 600 yards from those two calibers, sorry.
