I always find it musing that Mr. Banks is so busy with his opening number that he does not realize the kids are missing.

He is hardly "the father of the year"

He also had a role in the movie: "The Wooden Horse" 1950, about an escape from the same WWII German POW camp, Stalag Luft III, as depicted in the movie "The Great Escape".
Both escapes were actually going on at the same time.

I wonder which character would David Tomlinson be fit to portray in the Harry Potter mythos. I can see him being a former Minister for Magic, and NOT Fumbling Fudge.

This song is one of my favorites from the movie. I especially love the line George their missing and George says splendid splendid lol 😆. As a child I didn’t think a lot of that but now that I’m grown and I’m a husband and a father myself I can totally relate. We husbands and fathers don’t always pay attention like we should at least I don’t lol 😆. It’s not that I don’t care about what my wife and children are saying to me I do men apparently just have a very short attention span but I’m going to try and work on that.

Could anyone please enlighten me on this? Were children really sent to bed back then (1910) at 6 pm? I wouldn't be surprised if it was so. Considering there weren't a thousand things to distract them as there are now! Oh simpler times! Where art thou now?

There is an absolutely terrible howler in the opening seconds of this scene: the front door is too thin. In fact, it is even too thin for an interior door for a house of that period. What a cheapskate joinery department they had at Disney Studios!

It's really about the father. Mary Poppins herself is just a catalyst to make the family fully realise what they already have. You could, in fact, imagine that she is a mere figment of the imagination herself whilst people like Mr Banks (and Bert) are the real protective bricks and mortar of life that makes dreams really possible. Mr Banks enables them to have a comfortable living with servants at a height of Britain's world power! He is intrinsically loving and is no more supposedly 'distant' than Mrs Banks who spends much of her time on women's marches. I'm not here to bash feminism but it had a much more benevolent impact on the upper and upper middle classes than it did on the working classes.
