Why Everyone HATES Steve In Smash Ultimate

He's just annoying. He has a completely different game plan from everyone else which is iritating because he is also good. He's very stally and hard to punish.

I remember when the character first came out I still hated him. Usually when a character comes out of the learning phase within the fanbase, that means most have many concrete ways to beat them with certain characters as examples. Not steve I guess

For casuals like me who will never be competent by competitive standards, none of this matters, lol. But I do think nintendo needs to keep balancing the game if only to shift the meta once or twice a year.

I probably did not. The part I do not like about him is that his flight is hard to control, and the only reason I like him is the enderman skin. I expected the final smash to be the wither summoning, but reality gets dissapointing and the REAL one was the creepers in a castle being blown up.

As a spectator who plays melee but has never touched Ultimate, when watching Ultimate tournaments, Steve is the only fun character to watch. He is constantly building and you can see him doing so, figuratively and literally (mining, upgrading, placing blocks). I don't know the detailed ins-and-outs of every one of the like 729 characters in Ultimate and all their unique match ups. I don't know the weird tech skills the high level players are pulling off because usually these are not visually obvious. But Steve is ALWAYS doing something, and you can tell what he's doing. So he's a character that a layman can really latch on to when watching. The moment they banned Steve from tournaments I thought "Oh, well, I guess I'm done ever watching Ultimate again". The few times since that I've seen any matches were from Japan where Steve was not banned, and good god that has some of the cringiest English commentary. Steve was my gateway into watching Ultimate, when he was everywhere I would sometimes go to another video of the person that Steve just fought and be like "lets see how this game n watch does against some non-steve character". But without Steve in tournaments, I can't see any point in watching at all. Having seen the top Japanese player in the world lose tournaments while playing Steve, and even switch off of him because he is being beaten so badly, it really makes me think all the "ban-steve" people are just whining, the same way everyone whines about a specific character they have trouble beating in any fighting game.

As a non smash player, it’s my favorite character to watch, he’s way more entertaining than most of the cast.

So this character is universally banned from competitive play, right? Cause... that's fucking bullshit. And literally anyone who isn't a liar with common sense playing at competitive level absolutely knows it. So everyone should agree to ban him for game integrity.

I fell into the middle when Steve was announced. I'm not a huge fan of Minecraft (I prefer Terraria myself) and I just thought meh.

Stages with caves of life tend to be banned in tournaments. And Steve can create temporary caves of life on a whim.

I don't think lack of feedback can be entirely attributed to dlc characters being busted. This happened in smash 4 as well with bayonetta and it still took about a year for her to get nerfed, but is still top tier

Ah Steve i am not a fighting game expert, even i can foretold a future where steve gonna be broken. The character is made to be broken. Its just that the creator expect that the player need to juggle resources to be an enough demerit

Steve seems like a custom character that somehow negated the stat limit.
I think his unpatched overpowerness comes from the explosive popularity of minecraft.... ...when it went public (minecraft is ACTUALLY from 2006-2007, originally sponsored through BTC.
