Basen is an ass to her for no reason. The first time they meet he is rude, obnoxious and dismissive of her. I think he believe she is below him and he doesn’t have to show her respect because she is a lowly servant.

Okay, but can you talk about how Basen brought it all upon himself from the moment he met her with his: "Walk behind me, servant"-attitude?

Maomao and Fern are long lost twins and I refuse to believe otherwise

I sense cousin behaviors in those two. 😂 Out of 13 cousins theres only four of us that are girls. And the two youngest arent even outta their twenties yet while me and my older cousin are late 30s 😂. So yeah this behavior checks with my family atleast 😂❤❤❤

I think Basan is kinda jealous bc Maomao has his Dad and Jinshi's respect. They respect her for what she's accomplished so far, they know if they give her a job or puzzle to solve it'll get done. To Basen, she's a nobody. What's worse is she's smarter than he is. He hates that.

Are we confusing basen with lihaku xD

IDK if the novels say otherwise but I feel like it's less that Maomao hates Basen and more the fact that Basen CLEARLY does not like Maomao and Maomao just kind of responds in turn.

I dont think she hates him, that seems a little strong but he made it clear he didnt like her from the moment they met for no reason so he kinda earned it

Considering how unjustifiably hostile Basen has been towards Maomao, I hardly blame her for hating him.

You can like someone just fine and still want to mess with them, just look at plenty of sibling and close friend relationship. To be fair, if maomao is that eager to eat it, then that's a warning in itself. She isn't subtle about her interest at all when it comes to medicine and poison. Also, she specifically inspected basan to ensure he met her sister's standards beforehand. All that said, yes maomao is very much a little gremlin to many, many people. 😅

I find it funny also how maomao watches basen running out and basen not realizing his ass was showing 😭 Pairin almost stripped him so his belt was loose and somehow his ass was showing. Also love how Pairin observed him and noticed right away he was a virgin so she was looking at him like fresh meat

she did also say it directly! when she was asking Jinshi why does he even have Basen working for him... And, there is also one future Jinshi's subordinate she doesn't tolerate at all, Furan iirc

Maomao doesn't hate anyone. She ain't got time for hate. Well, maybe only Hulan (but that's way later). Basen is just insecure about... well almost everything. He's also terrified of hurting women after accidentally snapping his sister's arm like a twig at 6 years old, and so finds it easier to just keep them WAY AWAY from himself (to the point there were serious concerns he won't be able to procreate, so they made his brother do it). Eventually, he sort of classifies Maomao in his brain as "not a woman" because she's tough, and they get on fine after that.

More like they act like siblings. She knew what was wrong and how to deal with it so decided to have some fun with it. A bit twisted since her idea of what is fair play is out of whack but it is the thought that counts

So Maomao wants nothing more hen to play with her herbs and poison herself. Romance, marriage and all that would just get in her way. Then she gets sold to the court and she can't stop herself from helping save LingLea and trying to save the other baby. But now she sees all the plots to kill the children and helps stop them because she is a good person who can not look away.
She knows she is The Princesses of the La clan. This would put her on an even footing with the consorts. Also put a stop to her dreams of playing with her herbs.
Basen is just a guy who is proud of his status and doesn't understand why he has to babysit this strange little girl and doesn't hide his distain and she now likes messing with him
