From a son of survivors of this "mission civilisatrice", when my parents as kids and grand-parents came out of the camps where they ha been parked, out of thousands of hundreds, only 2000 suvived torture, human experimentation, abuse of all sorts. This video is so superficial and as always promotes the naive vision of friendly people coming to bring iphones and electricity to savages. Since I have no time or interest in delving in the mental conditions behind this kind of videos, I have a question. How much, how many iphones do you think the life of your mother is worth? The moment you come up with a value let's proceed to an exchange as these colonisers did. See how it feels to see her tortured. Maybe when you feel through someone who looks like you then, this inability to empathize with non whites may be offset and let you understand a little bit of what we feel. If colonialism was so great and benevolent then why are your working class not demanding to be colonized but instead, they want better conditions. Better incomes but why don't you want to work under 44° 16 hrs per day without a salary?
Delving into the numerous historical inacurracies would be such a waste of time.
I am not even surprised at the use of catch words and low class sophistry and massive distortion, mischaracterization of history to promote this stupid ideology. Many of the people who actually survived colonialism are still alive. There is a reason they have such resentment and this kind of ridiculous denial isn't helping one bit. But thanks, this is an interesting piece of video to illustrate the mainstream western mentality.

So if it cost over 3,208.81 million Francs to colonize, and the woman asks where would they be now, well, probably off a lot better. If no one has ever learned, investing any money in Africa is a waste. Ever since the start of time.

Same thing with Portugal on brazil
Many brazilians today ask to portugal to give back their gold when in fact many of it was being trade ilegal and portugal just taxed 20% of tue gold, where much of it was used to invest in Brazil itself
Maybe that black market they created shows the nowadays situation of brazil politicians and corruption where taxes are almost 50% yet some of the gold that was taxed 20% is still the problem for them...

Some things in the video were correct but others were not. It's more a matter of interpretation from which point of view you see it. Anyway, a colonialist should really pack his bags, close his military bases and piss off to where he belongs. namely the Americans. are not your countries, are not your resources, are not your citizens. Don't interfere in their domestic affairs and take your friends from Israel with you. Then the world would be so peaceful. just facts, nothing else.

Imagine the reparations we have to claim as Eastern Europeans, Romanians.
Let's enumerate who invaded and occupied us:
- Romans
- Goths, Visigoths, Celts, Huns, Slavs, most if not all migrations crossed us
- Tatars and Mongols, slavery raids, pillages, invasions
- Ottomans, slavery, pillages, occupation, tribute
- Austro-Hungary, occupation, colonization, tribute
- Germany, occupation
- Russia, occupation
- EU, tribute (does it count, it has to, they're pillaging us as we speak).

Who decides how far back we can go in History to claim reparations and demand apologies for perceived crimes? When I dealt with the Herero genocide in a Namibian history class, a Herero boy said: "Sir, if a culture is overrun and conquered by a superior culture, they can't really complain! They must realise they were inferior"..... I advised him not to say that in his community...

There is one key issue with your analysis of slave labor and economic prosperity. Although yes, the heavy industrialization of "Haiti" (I will just say Haiti for shortness) directly affected the economic prosperity of the Island there also has to be a understanding of the labor regimes that that influenced set economic prosperity. Haiti back then was located along a the first line of Caribbean colonies that received slaves straight from Africa. This meant that Haiti's slave labor regime also served as place to break Slaves for further exportation into the Americas. Moreover, the labor regime involved in the production of Sugar from sugarcane was one of the most intensive economic regimes that led to higher deaths and a preference for male bodies due to the heavy workload. Yes there were more slaves in the U.S. became the economic regime that exploited slaves was different, focused more in the production of raw materials like cotton, mining, lumber extraction, and domestic work. In Haiti, the death toll and turnover was higher, then the U.S. Another point of analysis that needs to be addressed is the slave codes and living qualities that varied from colony to colony and from Empire to empire. Moreover the modern economic miracles observed in places like Japan and India, as you mentioned, are more closely related to the onset of modern globalized trade and cheap labor then European colonial backlash. The mineral and raw wealth extracted by the European colonial powers is also directly linked to the economic re-structuring of Europre and a shift away from indenture service and serfdom into modern capitalism and a globalized economy (I know I am oversimplifying). Although yes you are right in calling out some of the blatant errors in the video, the legacy of slavery still has to be acknowledged as a key part of the colonial past and the enrichment of the colonial powers in Europe and the Americas. The issue of reparation is more complex then jut asking for money form europe, it is true that "woke" rethoric of today advocates for monetary reparations there is also geopolitical dimension that focuses on ending longstanding issues of ecomic exploitation by former Colonial powers on their former colonies, this mostly applies to fragile democracies and weak economies as seen in parts of West Africa and Latin America. But that is a whole other essay of an issue.

Can't wait for your next Ukraine update doe.

The most prosperous and well developed African country, Seychelles, wasn't even inhabited when Europeans showed up. Then they did and colonized the place with their enslaved Africans. Now they have the best GDP per captia (by a long shot), are number two on the human development index for Africa (right behind another former colony), and have a strong, diversified economy that's adaptable.

The top 20 African countries by both nominal GDP and GDP per captia are all former colonies.

The current societal problems faced by many African countries are not because they were colonies but because they have a low resilience to dictatorships and corruption. Problems which may not have been helped by colonial rule but are not inherently caused by it since many former colonies also don't face said problems, such as the previously mentioned Seychelles.

Colonialism isn't the cause of Africa's problems. Native Africans are the cause of Africa's problems, just as colonialism isn't the cause of South America's.

At first I thought you were going to be objective in this but then you 1. Called NATIVES hostile for defending themselves 2. Called the English settlers and the final straw 3. Claimed all slaves were sold by rivals. Smart in the little things you add and take out but what you’re doing is pretending to be factual while just defending your whiteness. Slavery is wrong and saying someone else did it doesnt justify (you) doing it too.
