As a new tf2 player, I genuinely feel bad for everyone who enjoyed the game, whether playing it or developing it. The talk at the end about how the developers tried their best is deserved, because they really did do that, just not enoguh because of someone else's laziness. I do hope, even if its dim, overwatch would come back somehow, but im not keeping my hopes up...

I remember being extremely concerned for the game the milisecond it was announced to be free to play.

Allways was fan of TF2 never needed that shit in the first place. They even take tfc sniper's rifle and add it to the widowmaker. Idea that valve trows to the trash can. They take that idea and use it. Never trust a copy cat.

If they had to scrap features, thats normal. That's ok. The last PvE trailer came out a while ago. Everyone knows things change or don't work out. But cancelling out of the blue like this? Especially with how awful the second game was? Unacceptable.

I bought overwatch 1 but got overwatch 2 in the end. Thats when i stopped playing.

As someone who played overwatch since beta, I don't know whether to cheer or cry at it's death.

I have no idea how the fuck Covid affected Blizzard this hard. I work for a software developer with at the time 100 people working there. When the "work from home" mandates were put in effect in March/April 2020, our IT set up everything in one fucking day. It was honestly amazing work, love those guys. Well, we all worked from home within a day as if nothing had happened and guess what? 2020 has been our most successful year to date. How the fuck did Blizzard not make progress for MONTHS?


Edit: I never played Overwatch, but I was so insanely sad when Jeff left. Still remember when we had rumors about "project Titan" all those years ago and when Jeff finally revealed OW to be this project Titan. He was so emotional, passionate, happy to finally reveal it to us. Overwatch was his baby. And then he left a few years later. Probably one of the biggest red flags ever.

I don't want overwatch to be saved.

You know what's sad? This isn't an Overwatch issue. It's also an Activision Blizzard issue. They both are suffering, because the franchises both suffer regardless of what decision happens. Everyone has their hopes immediately destroyed when a new game releases, hype dies down etc, the good old COD cycle.

I haven't followed much blizzard related news since they ditched SC2, but I'm surprised they could shaft another community, Overwatch, even worse than they did the starcraft community. Yes I know I know, Heroes of the Storm players didn't fare better and woe to those enjoying WC3, but Overwatch has officially taken the cake.

Me going to play tf2 after playing overwatch 2 for a minute

when overwatch was announced, i was in high school and i was talking about it with a friend. i was saying something like "well, in the 90s we had quake, in the 2000s we had TF2, now we have overwatch" i had THAT much hope for it. if you haven't been made aware already, Team Fortress 2 is a timeless masterpiece of a multiplayer FPS that i'm probably going to be playing until I die, even if i get sick of video games. it's just THAT good. it's goofy and cartoony and you don't have to take it seriously, but you still have to put in SOME effort in order to play well. it's just the perfect balance

so when it was announced, i genuinely thought it was going to be "TF2 set in the future". kinda like what people thought futurama was supposed to be before it came out, "Simpsons in Space". imagine a futuristic Team Fortress game set in the year 2068, with much newer looking maps and futuristic playable characters like an English-speaking gorilla, a giant robot with a machine gun built in, a Scout-like female character that can transcend time and space to evade attack, another female character like the Pyro except the passing of time has taken a toll on the propane industry and she has to use ice instead of fire (or something like that idk), another female character that can hack computer systems as they run everything now (sorry Ted, sending bombs in the mail wasn't as successful to evade technological progress as you thought it would be), and plenty of male characters (this turned into a gender thing apparently lol) that are all a good evolution of your beloved Team Fortress 2 mercenaries. the question is, are you ready to fight for your right to not fall victim to the technological slavery of the future?

in my opinion, that's what Overwatch should have been in the beginning. this whole time. essentially a futuristic copy of TF2, yes, but as i learned from a warowl video, "good artists borrow, better artists steal". to see what it's actually turned into is nothing short of a disappointment. perhaps if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself. and coincidentally, there's no better example of just that than TF2

If there's a new character i want to play it now. Forcing players to grind for hours to unlock it is a bad idea. And the failed PvE promise is a bad thing.
I played OW2 for 1 month, and decide, it is over.

It's important to note that when Blizzard canceled the original vision of the PVE content, they weren't making the "difficult decision". It was later revealed thT they knew for MONTHS IN ADVANCE that it had been canceled, and decided to willfully lie about it to their players for those months.

Why? Because they knew that revealing that bit during beta or just after the early access release would significantly hurt their initial player count and microtransaction sales.

So it's not just the removal of promised content that has players upset. It was the dishonesty surrounding it, and how they deliberately led players along on a leash in an effort to keep players engaged until the very last minute.

I don't know if I was just stupid or if it was weirdly worded BUT the first 40 euro pack (which came with Cassidy and Soldier skins) - I thought that money was also going for the PvE missions. I was so confused and disappointed that I just had wasted money. And then later they released those skins for everyone.

I combined my OW1 ps4 with my OW1 PC account and it just deleted my ps4 account from 2016. I contacted support and they just told me to wait so i waited months then i contacted again and they just basically said too bad. I lost all my stuff from 4 years of gameplay from the very start of the game. shit ass company
