This might be a really bad question... but how do u customize ur character?

I hate playing as a Gillian. It's impossible to survive for 30 minutes because I always run into something a hundred times stronger than me and can't escape it. Maybe if I could find a good hiding spot, I could just go afk and wait the 30 minutes, but I still have to get 30 kills. The game doesn't give you enough time to do that before you run into some asshole who kills you in 10 seconds, and especially not when you move at a snails pace. I thought maybe I could escape an impossible to win battle by just leaving the game, but no it sends back to level 10 as a normal hollow if you do that. This process is complete bs.
