The senators wife who looked white but was mixed probably didn't get accepted because they sensed how much better she thought she was than everyone else. This is a clear example of how mixed race and biracial people don’t really have a black identity. They use the acceptance of Black people to get ahead, but this man did not see himself as a black person or identify with actual Black people and I doubt if his mixed race parents did either. This is the case when you start digging into the background of a lot of historical figures. You’ll find a lot of unknown fathers or stories of parentage that don’t quite make sense, but yet they have some sort of white mentor that was helping them and funding them which was more than likely, their actual biological parent or close relative.

There's a study that was did on Black men and boys a few years ago & it stated that it doesn't matter if BLACK boys come from middle class to wealthy families, that they will more likely end in poverty. This is not the case for Black girls but it is the likelihood for Black males. Either it will be a wealth transfer or Blk males will end up back in poverty/jail etc. That's the reality for a lot of them. So, this story doesn't shock me.

Who did they pay their money to for their son's alleged crimes or misconduct? If one can pay to make any crime disappear there's a major problem of corruption with that type of system. What was the source of their wealth? What did the white power structure do to sabotage them and their financial success? Who ended up owning their houses and other physical assets?
It's bitter sweet. While am happy to know that there were black people in America at that time that gain some financial success, it's so sad they were unable to keep their wealth because it was they who owned it. They were not the only family that practiced nepotism it was the only language of white America then and yet their children were allowed to go from the halls of any Ivy League Institutions in academia to buisness with so much ease inspite of their criminality. The only difference is because they made the laws and controlled courts they would never beheld accountable financially or otherwise.

I only have one quibble with you: you say that it was Bruce's idea to emphasize industrial education over academic education. That is NOT true! Booker T. Washington, totally apart from R. C. Bruce, emphasized industrial education over and above academic education. This was one of the big disagreements between B. T. Washington and his main opponent, W.E.B. DuBois.[This also was a large part of the opposition to Washington's "Atlanta Compromise" speech. If you read the main book that DuBois wrote "The Souls of Black Folks" DuBois devotes an ENTIRE CHAPTER TO THIS CONTROVERSY [I think the chapter is titled "Of Mr. Washington and Others."] THAT is why B.T. Washington sponsored Bruce's appointment to the D.C. schools--he knew that Bruce would carry out the industrial agenda, AND DUBOIS was also in the running for the same position in D.C.
