Van life can be less expensive if you can camp for free alot of the time. Go into camp grounds here and there to clean the van, do laundry, clean your potty and fill up with water. Very Nice Life

Hey Dom, I have done vanlife in both Canada and Scotland. Most recently living in my van through winter on an Island on the west coast of Scotland. I am in a new relationship now and want to show my home country of Canada next summer doing a 6 week trip accross from Qc to BC or the Yukon. We want to travel at our pace and spot wildlife across Canada. I am looking at van options and was wondering if we could help each other.
I was wondering if you were interested in doing a vanlife route through Canada. Or using a blog that we could write. We could rent out a van or try equipment or work together.
Even if your not interested, I was wondering if you had any ideas or know someone that has a van that would be interested. Or if your dad is building one for someone on the west coast that need it delivered...
I thought it would be worth a try!
Talk to you soon!

Excellent! You should do a poll on subjects for future conversations.

Absolute delight! I agree with all that was said. A year into it, Vanlife did not solve my problems, and I was not expecting it. It did, however give me the opportunity to live a simpler lifestyle, time to reflect on myself, and see my problems with another eye. I am now literally off anxiety pills. I still worry about money and a few other things, who doesn't.. but I am now the person I wanted to be all my life, finally at 60. I will probably grow out of it at one point but while it lasts I enjoy every minute of it... except when I am bored with myself. 🤣😂🥰

GREAT GREAT GREAT!!! video!
What a fantastic idea to bring Dave in for an interview/ Q&A. This was one of the most thoughtful, and insightful conversations of it's type I've ever seen.
Also, I agree especially with the "connectivity" issue -- I'm always impressed with content creators' ability to both bring me into their lives, so to speak, while also managing the whole video capture & production, editing as well as the research many must do before they even begin the process for any given project or adventure. Any of these components of video production are full jobs unto themselves.
Loved the advice Dave, even though much of it may be common sense, it's still good to hear it in simple terms.
Cheers!...from North Vancouver

Dave didn't really answer the "Is vanlife expensive" question properly, imo. He was so focused on the cost of the build (because that's what he does) that he didn't seem to understand that the question had to do with ongoing costs, not start up costs.

Vanlife, like any other life, CAN be done on a budget. You just have to make choices that align with your budget. For instance, my tank holds 25 gallons of gas (about 95 liters). I get about 17 miles to the gallon, so one tank will take me 425 miles down the road and cost about $125 to fill. If I budget $250 for gas in a given month, I can travel about 850 miles that month. That's more than enough to get me from Seattle to San Francisco, or from Vancouver to Edmonton. Taking an entire month to make that trip gives me the opportunity to enjoy a whole lot of beautiful and interesting places along the way.

Sure, there's the start up costs. And you should definitely have a healthy emergency and repair fund. But the day to day cost of vanlife is up to you and the choices you make.

I tried saying ORnith-ORyn -Q 10 times but it did not help. :-p Honestly, thought you were speaking German by the 9-10th time you said it. Please don't judge me ;-p

As someone who moved into a van bc of financial struggles, it’s definitely possible to enjoy it while living on a budget. You just have to adjust your expectations and appreciate what you are able to do🤙 great video👏

I live in a van and work locally as a teacher. Therefore my van time is my adventure time and separate from my work. If I still lived in a house I certainly wouldn’t be as adventurous. Also here in the UK many give every penny of their wages to the e gov and big business to live in a house. At least my money goes on adventure and travel. 😁

Hey Dom, and Dave. Good information. Best bit I thought was don't expect vanlife to fix your personal (or personality) problems. Where ever you go, there you are. We are part timers, longest trip was 3 months. In 5 years we have modified a Shuttle bus, total costs about 17K USD. On our last trip to Florida to visit my daughter we met a guy in a 4WD Mercedes van, with all the bells and whistles at a Alabama rest area. I couldn't help myself and asked how much he had invested in his rig. He thought a bit, said somewhere between 250 and 275K. It doesn't have to cost that much.

Thank you Dom and Dave, great video! I am a truck-lifer, 'aspiring' to be a van-lifer. Even though I knew already what the answers were, it was nice to hear someone else agree and share the same ideas.
Have a great week!

Folks that pay a few $100,000's to build a van don't really sweat the price per gallon. Do they ? 😂

Is it worthy? Hell yeah, it is about living and to feel alive. "R" sound as a Costarrican comes easy 😂, try to pronounce Yigüirro (our National Bird). Very informative. Do VanLifers end up dressing up the same?
