Coming back to this video after listening the Scar Nicholas series I honestly now want a part two with the old pirates joining the revolutionaries in the new forming continental navy. You know what they say Captain John Paul Jones is a pirate.

I could see the Pirate Republic becoming so influential that the Skull and Crossbones/Skull and Crosssabers being included into the US Navy. THe eagle would sit on a Skull and crosssabers and an anchor being held in the mouth of the skull.

seems to me the US and the Pirate Republic would make natural allies as the colonists declare their independence from Great Britain the US sends Ben Franklin to Nassau to form an alliance with the pirates the pirates now have full permission to raid any ship flying the King's colors provided they give regular shipments of some of their plunder back to the colonists to aid the war effort there are plenty of English ships ripe for plunder and the pirates would also act as a navy for the colonial army raiding British shipping sinking reinforcements from Britain we may have ended the war earlier then 1781 and may not have needed France without the French the the empire may not have gone into bankruptcy and the french revolution may not have happened

I don't see the Pirate Republic being so quick to join forces with Britain. Along with their sudden unemployment after the War of Spanish Succession, another huge factor that fueled their decision was their former mistreatment while serving in the British Navy and Merchant Marine. That was the main factor that justified British pirates attacking British merchant ships.

That being said, the only alternate timeline I could see is the Pirates having organized themselves better, not burning so many of their prize ships but rather converting as many as possible to be warships, and by doing so, eventually becoming the dominant naval force, with Nassau, Harbor Island, and other nearby harbors and anchorages as their main bases of operation, which they would heavily man and fortify with armament from captured ships. As they become less "piratey" and more of a legitimate Republic, more and more defectors from Navy and Merchant ships would swell their numbers.

This would change Britain's (and France and Spain) hand from offering a pardon in 1718, to begging for a peace treaty. Allowing them to exist as a sovereign state and trying to establish commerce in place of piracy.

From there, as a means of keeping the wealth pouring in, I could see the pirates coming to sort of "own" the Atlantic. They would control transatlantic commerce like the East India Company controlled commerce in the Indian Ocean. Perhaps imposing tolls and tariffs and taxes on those wishing to commence transatlantic trade.

Fast-forward to the American Revolution. I could see the Pirate Republic favoring the Colonies' cause, and possibly some of them offering their services as paid mercenaries while others remained uninvolved.

Fast-forward even further, the United States is a country and quickly developing a larger and larger navy, and wanting to be the dominant naval power. Offers are made, Pirate Republic becomes a US territory, possibly a state.

Or the Pirate Republic remains Independent and ends up a maritime country in itself. Since all they wanted to begin with was to govern themselves, eventually "pirates" would cease to exist (their goal having been achieved, their grudges settled) other than as a denonym for a person from Piratia, piracy at this point having been completely replaced with legitimate trade and commerce with other countries.

i can tell that ships like the USS Kidd would gain a whole new meaning to its use of the Jolly Roger in a timeline like this.
