In the 17th century, the Cossacks took children and women hostage for Siberian fur hunting. The Cossacks were nomads who lived on Russia's eastern border. The Cossacks made money by hunting fur, and took children and women hostage and sold them as slaves. They starved Aboriginal wives and sons if Aboriginal fathers couldn't get fur. This behavior of the Cossacks caused great suffering to the native Siberian people.

Siberia is still Russian and must always be, even after they lose this ridiculous war Putin started. A Russian collapse would give the Chinese the window of opportunity to the CCP who claim Siberia as their own.

The importance of river transport to this is a really interesting counter-point to Dugin's claims that western power is water based while Eurasian/Russian power is land based. Trade and empire are always, especially in the premodern era, based in water routes.

The Siberian natives weren't pushovers, there just were so few of them compared to the incoming Slavs.

And they didn't necessarily suffer, as just as often they intermarried and traded with the incoming people.

It is a very good video. There is an error on the map regarding Early Russia-China borders though. What is shown is the contemporary border which mostly came about after the treaty of Aigun in the 1800s.

This was a great and concise video. I love that you point out that Siberia is in fact a colony and basically the longest lasting one at this point in history. Probably due to Russia’s mostly libertarian attitude to the natives.

The history of siberia and the russian expansion is not over yet. A new chapter would be written in the next century when climate change would allow a new expansion into it opening one of the last frontiers.
