TEA’s Commissioner Mike Morath spoke at the Texas Committee on education about considering banning cell phones in classrooms across the state.
However, in light of multiple recent online threats targeting schools, some are questioning if this is a safe decision.
Morath spoke about many things at the meeting, ranging from academic readiness to new state testing, but a suggestion he made to the committee about completely banning cell phones has mixed reactions throughout Central Texas.
“Cell phones are extremely harmful for student learning and if it were in my power I would have banned them in all schools in the state,” Morath said.
