Atlantic & Arctic Lighthouse Weekly Hour with EcoDaLLi (S01E05)

On September 20, 2023, 2-3 PM CET, Nadja Schlichenmaier will introduce us to the EcoDaLLi CSA: Ecosystem-based governance with Danube lighthouse Living Lab for sustainable innovation processes

The EcoDaLLi CSA is funded under the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030 (Mission Ocean). Starting in 2023, seventeen partners and one associated partner from eleven countries are working towards the protection and restoration of the Danube’s ecosystems and biodiversity.

The Danube, with its rough length of 2850 km, is Europe’s second-longest river crossing 10 European countries. It is a critical water way enabling trade and providing water, food and power to the thousands of people living among its banks. Unfortunately, these essential functions have put the river and the wide range of ecosystems it hosts under threat by a variety of pressures such as pollution, overfishing, hydrological changes, infrastructure developments, over tourism and climate change. The European Union has therefore defined the Danube & Black Sea as one of the Lighthouse areas in the Mission Ocean.

This presentation will provide an overview on how EcoDaLLi, as CSA of the Danube Lighthouse, will collaborate with the Mission Ocean and work with the Innovation Actions towards succeeding in the Danube Lighthouse goals. The main objective of EcoDaLLi is to centralize Danube governance structures in terms of innovative solutions for improved ecological restoration, protection & preservation of the Danube Basin & its Delta by fostering a stronger innovation ecosystem within a well-connected Living Lab system.

Dr. Nadja Schlichenmaier (Steinbeis Europa Zentrum)

Dr. Nadja Schlichenmaier is project manager at the Steinbeis Europa Zentrum and works as coordinator of the EcoDaLLi project. She holds a doctoral degree in Biology from the University of Konstanz and is proud to be contributing to the Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030.
