Ответить_ "RUM" is an abbreviation for Eastern Roman citizens. The Arabs called the Seljuks the Sultanate of Rum. The concept of Rum is the name of a region and people known by Arab Islamic geographers. When talking about the Turks who dominated Anatolia during the Turkish Seljuks, they named it as 'the "RUM" sultanate of Konya' or "the RUM" sultan. The Ottomans called themselves the kaiser "Rum", that is, the caesar of the "Rum(W.Roma)". In the 18th century, this word began to be used only for Christian subjects. The Greeks, on the other hand, accept the word Rum as the name given by the Turks to the Greeks in Anatolia. (In Turkey today, such Christian Turks, other orthodox, Rums are regarded as ethnic relatives of the Greeks.) When eastern Rome fell, the westerners blamed the Greeks. German historians preferred to refer to the East as the Byzantine empire rather than Rome. In fact, the Greeks were the Eastern Romans.
