ОтветитьWhere do I buy the lilacs plants
ОтветитьJust watched your tutorial on hydrangeas and loved it so now I am looking through other pertinent tutorials that meet my needs. I have a lilac, so now I will learn more right from you! Thank you!😊
ОтветитьDo the cut off branches need to be sealed to protect from disease?
ОтветитьI clicked this video to learn about pruning. Gave up after 6 minutes of him rattling on telling stories. That plus they’re not showing common lilacs. These are dwarf and “late lilac” which are not pruned in the same manner. So either he doesn’t know the difference or it’s a misleading title.
ОтветитьOur lilac was there when we bought our house. It's tree-sized, and I'm pretty sure from the pics you showed that it's one of the more old-fashioned ones. My question is whether it's possible to cut it back and transplant it somewhere sunny--it's currently under a large coniferous tree (not sure what kind) and a cherry tree. Yeah, our back yard is a mess. lol
ОтветитьI live in Northern CA. In 1985 I had 3 lilacs. Over the years 2 of them have died. I have one left. It had 1 tiny lilac this spring, last year it had 3, the year before it had 7. It was really cold and wet this Winter, but we have been i a drought for a long time-years. I have been scared to prune it since the other 2 died. Is there anything else you would recommend that might help it? The plant itself is very heathy looking, nice & green. We have had it since 1985. What time of year should we prune it?
ОтветитьThank you so much . Lilacs have been my favorite for as long as I can remember. I never knew that you need to prune like that. I will try to prune my as soon as I can. Ann from Va.
ОтветитьMy dwarf Korean was wonderful for about 10 years. Then I decided to prune it, and now I can’t get it to stop suckering. I can’t keep up with cutting/digging them out!
ОтветитьThank you for your kind words. We have a lilac that has never bloomed. It’s about 4 foot tall, many green leaves, a lot of shoots, it just never bloomed. What do you feel about why it never blooms and can I do something to get it to bloom? Thank you.
ОтветитьOutstanding video, David. Thank you very much. I have a little project tomorrow. DA
ОтветитьHi David and everyone on the conversation! Help! Hoping to find an answer to this - I researched and can't find anything on the subject. We have a new house (and garden :) and were so excited when out late lilacs (I believe they are the villous ones) blossomed. It is my favorite bloom, so I was so happy to start making some bouquets for indoors. But then we were shocked at how bad they smelled inside the house! I tried at different times throughout the blooming period with no success.. When they were the most fragrant, it actually stunk outside too! The usual lilac fragrance was there, but there was definitely another element to it - it smelled like the elephants dwellings when i went to the zoo as a child. I am being a little dramatic, but we have 12 of them throughout our garden and I just inconsolable about this. I smelled the same scent when walking by other gardens in town, so it appears it' s just our bushes but wanted to see what you have to say. Wondering if it is typical for this particular dwarf lilac type. Many thanks!
ОтветитьI have three supposed reblooming dwarf lilacs planted in a cluster that have thrived beautifully. They are supposed to rebloom if sheared after the initial spring bloom but they do not. Any idea why not?
ОтветитьThank you, David!! :)
ОтветитьWhen to prune in Oklahoma?
ОтветитьThank you for a very informative video! I've pruned my lilacs over the years but only cut off the spent blooms. I've wondered why I haven't been getting many flowers lately. I am going to try your method.
Ответитьthis is MrBear ?? is there eny forms of lilacs that will grow in central west florida ? thank you/and how would you grow rhem.
ОтветитьYour plant looks more like a shrub the ones I have are trees I do take out the broken and dead branches but it would be hard to prune back as it is quite tall now.
ОтветитьI have a tall..about 15 feet or so but all the flowers are on top. Can I cut it back to about 6 to 10 feet tall?
ОтветитьI have 8 lilac bushes in my yard 4 have blossoms 4 never bloomed. WHY
ОтветитьHave you ever propagated any of your branches David? Glad I found your channel!
ОтветитьSmells wonderful
ОтветитьThank you.
ОтветитьExcellent video! I bought a home with a large, woody, overgrown lilac and needed some good advice on pruning it up. I suppose about half the plant material will need removed. You've really helped me and earned a new subscriber!
Ответитьget to the point, please.
ОтветитьThat’s a good video for a plant that has been maintained. Two of my plants were not maintained and died out in spots. Now, they are small trees. 😊
ОтветитьI plant multiple lilacs at each home I’ve lived in!
Ответить16 minutes to explain how to lilacs ??
ОтветитьMy mom's advice from her family, which puts it back into the 19th century, was to always cut out the largest vertical shoot each year. I don't do it regularly, but it seems to be working.
I like your idea of reducing the size to keep it vigorous.
I have a dwarf lilac that was a gift about 10 years ago. It's amazingly full and lush this spring, but is starting to get a bit too big for the space it's in. I think I'll use your method on it because it doesn't seem to have that tall central cane structure of my other lilacs. Thanks for this video and sharing your knowledge with us!
I would like to know how to get rid of them
ОтветитьHi David! Brand new to gardening and I’m so glad I found your channel! For the bloomerang dwarf purple lilac, because it reblooms should I be waiting for the last bloom to prune or do it after the first blooms die? Thank you in advance 😊
ОтветитьThanks David very helpful.
ОтветитьMy lilac has become woody, kind of like trees. Which bloom. Should I cut them down to become like bush?
ОтветитьFirst time viewer here. Well explained video, great job! 👏🏻👏🏻
ОтветитьI really like my lilacs but i really wish they lasted longer
ОтветитьI thought this was about "Pruning" lilacs.
ОтветитьAs a kid in the 40s, I has some sort of allergy to lilacs.... They would put me to sleep.... Our teacher loved them and always would bring a bunch of lilac flowers to school which she placed near my desk,,,,, I would almost go into a coma.... I never of heard this from anyone else....

ОтветитьThank you very much for your knowledge. Now I have a better idea how to trim my lilacs.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your talents with us demonstrating pruning correctly. 😊🙏🥰
ОтветитьI've got about two dozen mule deer that will help you prune those bad boys. To stubs.
ОтветитьThank you for the great information.
ОтветитьI have seven old lilacs (Syringa vulgaris) in my garden; they are all the size of a small tree now. They look pretty for two weeks per year but the fight with the suckers never stops. They pop out everywhere. If I could start my garden from scratch, I would never plant a lilac in it again.
ОтветитьDavid, how and when do you prune the dwarf re-blooming lilacs?
ОтветитьSmelling good brings back memories of the past and grandmothers and mother’s always growing these. I have one big one now.
Ответитьomg I just found HEAVEN :))
Ответить👍🏽
ОтветитьWay way way too long
