I have astygmatism and I'm pretty sure I got high index for that. I've kind of forgotten my exact prescriptions and the optician didn't really show me anything my last eye check like homer simpson's dream where he doesn't get to see the product he invented

If I have an interest in buying my own lenses, is there a way to tell which ones are my prescriptions or do i just have to ask? I tried an app before and it can't tell what a high index prescription is

CR39 and flat top 45 bifocal. I have a pair for distance and near and one for intermediate and near (my computer glasses). I see no reason to even consider the tradeoffs of progressive lenses.

1 - cr39 =
2- polycarbonate = soft plastic, thin lightweight, shatter resistant but not so scratch resistant. Recommended for construction work sports etc to prevent injuries. Low abbe value so more aberrations.
3- trivex = trademark material stronger than cr39 just like polycarbonate but better than polycarbonate less aberrations. Smell bad
4 - high index = 1.69 1.74, thin lightweight given in high prescriptions, give more reflections so good anti reflective coating is recommended
5- photochromic lenses= photosensitive lenses

So I have sunglasses with prescription polycarbonate. The tint is honestly not all that great, and sometimes I can't really see in bright sunlight all that well. Where I got them from says that polycarbonate doesn't tint as much as plastic. Is Trivex maybe a better alternative to have more tint?

I have had bad experiences with "coatings gone bad". The last glasses I got I said not coating please. However they still sent bad after two years and I could hardly seeing out of them. I have been carefully to wash them with warm water and common soap, but some of have said that is the problem. I assume (but don't know for sure) that the lens material is either CR39 or poly-carbonate. I just got new glasses and would like to know the best way to clean them to avoid this problem.

Hello, my biggest concern is paying for a lens I don’t need, because I’m not knowledgeable enough to know what is best. I don’t want my lenses sticking out of my frame. It is mind boggling deciding. Some charts that you find online are vague & results vary. Will anti-glare reduce aberrations with polycarbonate? The SPH in my Rx is fairly low farsightedness w/ an OD of 0.00; OS of +1.00, but my CYL/astigmatism is higher in my left eye at -3.50 & -0.75 in my right. I’m not sure which index would be best/not super heavy. I guess it depends on the frame? I tend to try to avoid bulky plastic frames & prefer metal or thinner wire frames. So I’m always annoyingly indecisive when ordering glasses online lol & it takes a while to commit. Based off the info I shared, would mid-index 1.57 be too heavy for my Rx? Or should do 1.59 poly or 1.61 high index? Thank you.

I always find it odd that in North America you call glasses "Eye Glasses" in the rest of the world". We just call them "glasses" because where else are you going to put them?! It's a big like Horse back riding. Where else are you going to ride on a horse lol

I just received a pair of glasses from LensCrafters. The lenses have AR, blue light, and anti-smudge treatment. The problem is I can see the coating only covers the center of both lenses as if it was applied after the lenses were already in the frame? Around the perimeter there is nothing and is visibly different from where the AR coating is applied. Can you help me make sense of this?

I need to know what to look for in new doctor and what is the best/most advanced way to get prescriptions.

I recently ordered my first glasses, I use glasses only indoors in front of a computer and sometimes for reading books. Despite my use case, the seller pushed to "Upgrade" for polycarbonate lenses, in case I decide to do sports in my computer glasses. After this video, I understood that for my use case, polycarbonate has only disadvantages - optical quality and scratch resistance for polycarbonate are worse than for CR-39. The cost was not a big issue, I was ready to pay extra since I spent 10+ hours in front of a computer screen every day. I ordered cheaper alternative CR-39 lenses, +1.0 and +1.5, and some special "Eyezn" coating with blue light blocking that is designed for computer use. I am very satisfied, needed those glasses for a couple of years if not longer. All that consultant told me is that polycarbonate is overall better than cr-39, so I should upgrade to that material. After this video, I understood that standard cr-39 lenses have other advantages on top of cheaper prices, but sellers will tend to "upsell" more expensive options no matter what your use case is.
