As a Japanese who studies human history, I find such discourse ridiculous. Plz understnd that you are now doing the saeme thing as netizens in North korea and SK. In fact, they are also promoting Japan's unique culture such as Samurai, Kimono, Ninja, Sumo, Karate and Judo as their own. It is shameful.sry my bad english.

As an American, Hollywood needs to stop added races where they don't belong in history. If you want one real bad, write another story about it as a fiction and make it entertaining. Most countries around the world proud of their histories and heritages, especially Asia and they're not woke like in the western countries so have some respect.

Why is a Black samurai inconceivable to the eurocentric mindset??? The Japanese have a written history of this guy's existence. This irrefutable historical fact, written by the Japanese themselves,,, is not easily brushed aside by the asinine application of the word Woke... But in the age of eurocentric fear,, fear of the replacement by non-europeans,, I guess the overuse of this word is as good as you can make it get,,,they will try to deny this Black samurai existence,, even when the Japanese themselves wrote about it. Wow,,,, so sad.!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm reading comments by people,,, I will assume they are of the European persuasion,,,making up nonsense to deny this Black samurai great exploits,,""epic exploits."" Exploits document by the Japanese themselves. Sorry y"all , can't spin this one away. Notice no Japanese are denying his existence,,, repeat,,, no Japanese are denying his existence . This is all available on Google,, denying this man's achievements, would be like me saying Charlemagne ,or George Washington. wasn't real because I didn't see it. I guess AI generated all his histories documented by the Japanese themselves ?? Believe me the word woke isn't that powerful,,, people of lesser intelligence are trying to use this word like they use across against vampires in a movie.

This actually pisses me off 😤 the Japanese population knew about this for centuries and not only they hide this from people, they also name their criminal gangster after him. The worst-case is that all of you are ignoring these facts because you like anime and are refusing to believe that Japanese people hate our people

What I find so interesting is that MANY, MANY ppl commenting here ACTUALLY BELIEVE the so called “history” they’ve been taught in school(college included), read on Google, Wikipedia, etc. is ABSOLUTELY correct., true, accurate. “I read this!”, I read THAT!”…Reminds me of all the BS about ANCIENT Egypt being WHITE!!! ( oh my baby geeez-us!!!) And it’s always some YT guy complaining &/or presenting himself as a self appointed historical authority.😂😂😂 A LOT of history has been left out, fabricated, made up by the very same ppl who deny there EVER was a planet first populated by BLACK skinned ppl (but they believe in science !!). Or deny that certain ppl are not Whom they say they are. Even better, leave out a whole nation, group, ethnicity from the story books called History. Deny they EVER existed. Steal ppl’s identity. Take credit for building, creating things you didn’t. History has purposely been manipulated, re-written, re-IMAGINED for the benefit of the dominant culture. Ppl in Europe don’t learn the same history that ppl in North America do, or those in Southern Asian countries, etc. And most are attached to what they believe, especially if it confirms in their minds, (& what Hollywood has planted in them) their superiority.

Why is marxist sociology promoting false-hood narratives?

There were no black samurai. Asia major and minor had slavery, as did the Catholic influence as a commodity to spread Christianity throughout Pacific islands, Japan, and China.

The Islamic pirates too had their slaves.

You're afraid of the history because you're finding out that all roads lead to black people and these are the people that you hate the most so is making you feel like you're losing your identity but it's best to embrace and not fight it. Black people are spread throughout the four corners of the Earth. Black people taught Asians karate in the 7th century

The Ainu people of Japan were not "black" , Sakanouye No Tamuramaro had darker skin but he wasn't what would be called "black" in today's diverse idea of race. So no he wasn't an African Shogun. There are many Japanese histories such as the Shoku Nihongi that discredit all of the American "historians" (using the term loosely) that this video uses as references for Tamuramaro. This video even got the root of Samurai wrong yes its from the word saburau but it meaning is not "to guard" it's actual meaning is "to serve".

And Yasuke, Yes he was a African man that went to Japan during the end of the Sengoku Period. And yes he was in service to Oda Nobunaga. But was he a Samurai? It's a strong maybe. There is evidence that he was, and evidence that he wasn't. Yasuke was given a stipend which was standard for Samurai, he was at times Nobunaga's weapons bearer (a position that Nobunaga often gave to his young boy lovers). He was given a home, servants, and an ornamental sword. All point to Samurai. But it seems that he was never given a surname or clan name which is most important when rising to the class of Samurai. It took Hideyosh years to rise in rank to become Samurai and sandal bearer to the daimyō. It's hard to believe that Yasuke did such in a few short months as he was only in Oda Nobunaga's service for around a year. The video says two years, yet another detail that the video got all wrong. Also there is also no account of Yasuke donning Samurai armor or going to battles. He did not lead bushi or ashigaru there is absolutely no evidence that he was a warrior under Oda Nobunaga in Japan.

The Honnō-ji Incident. There is no historical account that Yasuke was at Nobunaga's side when he he commented seppuku, or that he carried off Nobunaga's head. It defies logic that a 6'2" back man snuck past 13,000 solders surrounding the temple with the daimyō's head it tow. It more likely he was outside the temple and fled to Nijō Shin-gosho when he saw the siege taking place. Also what happened to Nobunaga's head when Mitsuhide defeated Nobutada? Most Japanese historians think that all of Nobunaga's remains were cremated in the inferno that was Honnō-ji temple after the siege and none of the people inside could be identified. The only record we have of Yasuke from the Incident is him giving up his sword and when Akechi was asked of what should be done with the black man he said that a dog is not responsible for the sins of his master and that he was not Japanese and has no place in such matters, so he should be sent back to the priest that brought him here. It would seem that he didn't see him as a highly valued Samurai of Nobunaga.

Thomas Lockley's book though a fun read should have been called the "Mythological and Fictional History" rather than the "True History" as he and his co-author took a historical subject that if all of the known records are gathered it would maybe fill one single page if wrote in large print and double spaced and made a 450 page book. It is 99% historical hypothesis, embellishment, and down right fiction. He even sighted sources that contradict his own "historical" telling. It's sad really that books such as this can be passed of as nonfiction, much like this video tries to pass itself off as.

Actual japanese historians are being silenced for disagreeing with this. Black culture doesn't have to be the basis for everything nor does there have to he a black samurai just be cause some circumstantial notes have translations that make it seem like a black man was of the Samurai caste. He was not, there is no evidence to the contrary, please stop pretending this isn't cultural appropriation.

For the people in the comment section saying that this is false, did you even watch the video??? Sakanouye no Tamuramaro (The Great Shogun Of Japan) captured the attention of some of the most distinguished scholars of 20th century America. The first person the video named is
1. Alexander Francis Chamberlain (Canadian Anthropologist)

2. W.E.B. Dubois (American Sociologist/Historian)

3. Charles H. Wesley (American Historian)

4. J. A. Roger’s (Jamaican/American Author/Historian)

5. Dr. Mark Hyman (American Physician/Author)

So I’m supposed to believe yall over historical world wide renowned scholars, historians, and anthropologists. Who’ve all written books that cite and references other world wide historical scholars that have done the research and study. They all say the same thing, but I’m supposed to believe y’all??? No books, no real research and cross references, no titles such as being historically renowned as one of the greatest minds ever or of the century. Just it ain’t true cause I said so. Man the retardation is real SMH.

「アフリカ人侍弥助」という歴史的事実は日本には存在しません。なぜなら、弥助には家名がないからです。日本では、真の侍になるためには家名を持つことが必須条件です。したがって、苗字のない弥助は侍とみなすことはできません。
There is no historical fact that "African samurai Yasuke" in Japan. Because Yasuke doesn't have family name.
Having a family name is essential condition to be a true samurai in Japan. Thus, Yasuke, who does not have a family name, cannot be considered a samurai.
