Do you set goals for your performance review meeting?

ОтветитьMy performance reviews literally don't matter. I work for idiots. We have no metrics, and your performance score doesn't matter in respect to pay. It's all just a BS waste of time because someone read some BS book on "how to manage," and the book said these stupid reviews are required.

ОтветитьMy manager gave me my 1 month review today. He's a lazy fat f***. That's my assesment of him. I glanced at a few things, told him it looked to me like a "kindergarten report card", pointed out that I only missed 1 day, due to insomnia (he has missed at least 7 days since I started and goes home early often, I didn't read a single paragraph he wrote explaining anything I only saw the words 'people seem to like him" which they do and then asked where to sign off. He pointed it out, I said "fair enough..." I signed really awesome it was a good, loose signature, full name, not my usual initials, asked him what the date was he told me. He asked if I wanted to discuss some of it, I said "nah, it's cool". He goes "so I'm gonna turn this in to the boss, then..." I go "yeah, no prob...." He goes "well do you want a photo copy?" I replied "nah, it doesn't matter..." Completely calm, not offended other than the attendance thing. 1 day missed iin 1 month and 3 weeks, he gave me mid grade. 3 out of 5. In my opinion, it should have been 4. Not 5, but 4. Very Satisfactory, but whatever. Like I said, I don't care.
My buddy there, who is not a fan of this guy either, worse than me who was standing there, was now outside having a smoke. I joined him, he was laughing. He says to me "you caught him by surprise there..." I think he was looking for some kind of protest or something. Begging pleading, don't do this. I don't care. The only thing he got out of me was "this looks like a kindergarten report card and I only missed one day." Also though... 1 month and 3 weeks? Shouldn't it be 3 months?
I'm liked. I won over dude who is a big dude there. The other driver. The main driver. He was kind of a hard a** when I first started there, which is to be expected. I'm new. They don't know what to expect, he didn't know me. All it took was getting into a truck with him and when he started air guitarist to Dire Straights, Sultans of Swing I asked him if he actually plays guitar. No, sort of, but not really BUT he is passionate about all kinds of music. Oh yeah, check this out man... I got a Gibson Les Paul Studio and a Jackson Kelly. This guy doesn't just hear Hendrix he HEARS Hendrix. He's cool. They're all cool. Girls up front, same thing. They all like me. Him? Not so much.

ОтветитьWhy should I slay it? They don't like me I can get a new job, I don't like them I can get a new job. I am not here to impress my boss. I am here to make enough money to live the life I want. It's bs and toxic idiots like you that perpetuate this stupidity.
If I want a raise, I get another job that's pays me what I think I am worth. Why should I beg someone to pay me more who clearly don't see my value? Jobs come and go. Don't act like we're trap in them and have to let them rule our lives.
You guys get it so hard in USA. The threat of being dismissed from day to day must create enormous pressure. This is why you try so hard during your reviews. Bosses should receive performance review from their employees too.

ОтветитьWhen asking for a raise or a salary match from a prior position how do you face this? I took a major paycut leaving my previous job for my current job to be in a better environment and advance my career however the paycut is hurting more than expected.

I didn’t even know what she was talking about but I said okay. I work at a dental office as a receptionist. what do u think this will entail? (I did watch the video lol)

ОтветитьIt would be my second performance review next year and I’m trying to make a list early on of my accomplishments as they come so that I’m prepared and not waiting till the week I have to do my self evaluation to be scrambling. Very few people I think at my job do the self evaluation but I love doing mine because it’s the only time I can actually say everything I’ve done. My manager even reworded what I said lol. I chose “exceeds expectations” instead of outstanding because it was my first year. Next year I’m aiming for “outstanding” 😊
A mistake I made was being extremely nervous during the zoom call with 5 of my supervisors about it. I wish I could of asked what I can do to improve. Next time though if I don’t get that outstanding 👍🏼

improve the company as a whole. I told my manager we had a big
warehouse that left with allot of space, why not use it to cook methamphetamine. This idea came after watching Breaking Bad BTW. Too bad the manager didn't take my idea seriously. Your lost.
