Former Kerala MLA PC George arrested over ‘communal’ remarks

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Kerala politician and former MLA P C George was taken into custody by police on Sunday morning for his alleged controversial remarks against Muslims at Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelanam organised by Hindu Maha Parishad in Thiruvananthapuram.
Police said cops from Thiruvananthapuram Fort police station took Mr George into custody from his residence at Erattupetta in Kottayam district in the early hours on Sunday. His arrest was also recorded in the morning.

20 civilians evacuated from besieged plant in Mariupol

Mariupol: At least 20 civilians, including several children, were able to leave a badly battered steel plant in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol on Saturday in what could be seen as the start of a long-awaited, larger evacuation of the last holdout in the Russian-held city.
Ukrainian fighters of the Azov regiment, which has been defending the site, said the 20 civilians had left, possibly for the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, about 225 kilometers to the northwest.

Gorakhnath temple attack accused was In touch with ISIS, says UP Police

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The accused in the Gorakhnath Temple attack case was in touch with the fighters and sympathisers of the proscribed terror outfit Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), said Prashant Kumar, Additional director general of police (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh Police.
Mr Kumar on Sunday was sharing the snippets from the investigation by UP Anti-Terror Squad (UP ATS) in connection with the Gorakhnath Temple case where accused Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi on April 3 forcibly tried to enter the temple premises and attacked the on-duty police personnel with a sharp weapon.

Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu ended her Badminton Asia Championships campaign with a bronze medal after going down fighting to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in three games on Saturday. The 26-year-old started the match on a positive note but couldn't keep the winning momentum going, losing 21-13 19-21 16-21 to the top seed and world No. 2 Yamaguchi in the clash, which lasted one hour and six minutes.
