Dog walks Dorset Hengistbury Head. A fabulous walk with my labrador and jack russell around the Hengistbury Head between Southbourne Beach and Christchurch Harbour in beautiful Dorset.Vibrant beach huts can be found on the Mudeford sandpit at the end of Hengistbury Head. There are two Cafes en-route, one next to the car park, The Hiker Cafe and usually one on the Sandpit, however this one is currently under repair due to a fire last year. Large car park on the Southbourne side. There is a height restriction barrier to the car park but you can also park for free for an hour on the road leading to the carpark even in high vehicles such as camper van or mobile homes. For a longer walk you can park, again for free, on the side roads in Tuckton, just a bit nearer to Christchurch, and walk along the River Stour towards Hengistbury Head. My dogs love a dip in the river on the way. A small ferry boat can transport you and your dogs across the river to take a stroll around pretty Christchurch town with its individual shops and diverse range of eating establishments. My favourite is the Captains Club Hotel, just next to the ferry, which is very dog friendly, allowing dogs on the beautiful terrace overlooking the river as well as inside in one section of the restaurant. Not many 'posh' places with great food that allow dogs, this is one of them ! Have lived in Bournemouth for 10yrs so know this area very well. I love my dogs and my camper van/motorhome and would be happy to answer any questions you may have about this area.
