Old-timer here, in computers since the early 70s. This is a great overview of new storage technologies that are difficult to keep up with. Thanks.

Need help! My hard drive died and I found out in the specs for hard drive it says: PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD Form Factor 2280.

But when I opened my laptop I noticed the SSD card was B & M keyed! So now I'm really confused because it has 2 notches! Isn't that only for SATA drives? Do they make B & M keyed PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD in a 2280 form factor?

Superb content on this channel and really enjoy watching your videos.
Is there any possibility of one to explain in lay mans terms how to re-animate or re-vitalise, or whatever the terminology to allow an sd card and it's contents to be viewed in the Windows Explorer or Linux files when there appears to be no card or files present.
Is there any commercial software available that is a sure fire way to get these cards working again or do they need to be ditched?
Many thanks for your efforts. Regards David

The difference between this and other tech channels is that this actually teaches you whereas the other ones just show you cool tech.

I'm quite curious about how the speeds as well as how reliable those HDDs, SSHDs and SSDs are. We all know that M.2 NVMe SSDs are fast, but are more expensive than HDDs. As far as I know HDD manufacturers like Seagate and WD still make HDDs but had introduced some useful improvements like HAMR, Helium-Filled HDDs, and more. However say I wanted to buy an HDD or maybe an SSHD for my video editing, streaming, and compressing videos using HandBrake as well as OpenShot Video Editor - would it be better to just buy an ultra high storage HDD or best off buying an SSHD? I do use CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark in order to check on my HDD health and how fast it goes. I don't use a HDD as my main PC storage drive, whereas I use a M.2 NVMe instead. Also I had to reassign the /TEMP folder and files to be stored in my RAM using RAM Disk from DataRAM Software as it's not wise for me to have temp files stored and erased constantly in my M.2.

I purchased an mSATA to M.2 converter card for an older iMac (late 2013) that was originally setup as a hybrid drive. I breathed in new life into the machine and am typing this comment from it. The HDD was replaced with an SSD 2.5in with a SATA interface, but this made a huge difference in speed overall: the boot drive is a 1TB (the mSATA >M.2) Samsung EVO 980 and the, formerly a harddrive, is now an EVO970 (also 1TB). I can probably use this machine for a few more years (although still stuck with DDR3 memory).

If you spent $40,000 on a SSD you would think they would wave the $29 shipping.

Having 2 internal NVME Samsung Evo 970 Plus in my self build PC. It seems to me that they get hotter than my wife's internal SATA Samsung Evo 870. Does it make sense to put on them thermal pads and heatsink? Some say it is not needed...a bit confusing...

what I never see anyone talk about or mention in videos discussing different SSD's etc is the presence vs absence of DRAM cache and how it will affect performance and price (and indeed how to look to see if a specific model has it or not, because that seems to be just as difficult to figure out, even on product specification pages on its official web site in some cases). So it would be good if you could do an addendum video where you address that maybe

Thank you for making this video. I'm just annoyed that... The sizes have shrank and to see that... Tech does have it's looking timeline as well.... :( I recently got an idea centre and realised that it uses a M2 as you stated... Now I can see why we have gone down the road of data centres and back up and things. I mean.... No wonder Japan started recycling these days. Such a strange time we live in. I realised why apple keep allowing you to exchange and upgrade. Cos the machines are likely to die out. The chemistry of those machines just show that it can actually be not quite that easy to keep alive. Very volatile in reality.

Wish I'd found this two weeks ago. Ordered an SSD for my HP 840 G1 which had what appeared to be an M.2 keyed M. Turns out, they used an M-Key but it's a SATA interface. I had to return the SSD. I figured, "M-Key = NVMe". I figured incorrectly.

Untangling the differences and relationships and comparisons between SED drives, ATA Passwords in BIOS, on-drive encryption vs software based.

I have been a computer technician since the late 90's. This channel is one of the ways I keep myself learning new stuff and refreshing my understanding of the stuff I already know. It's relaxing and more importantly for me clear to understand. Your voice, pacing and delivery style is top notch so I do not need to crank up the volume as high as with other channels.

Outstanding. Thanks! I just spent a day figuring out that I could not put an M.2 drive in my machine, and get the performance I hoped for, since my MB doesn't have a second PCIE 2 slot which would be required to support the adapter card properly. And, since the MB only has SATA2, which can't get my SSD anywhere near to it's rated speed, I am now ordering a VERY similar used MB with SATA3, USB3 and digital audio out. All things I want and for a good bit less than a PCIE - M.2 adapter and M.2 drive. Not as fast, but fast enough!
