For this episode of SMT Lore the unique depictions of Islam are up. I must admit that the use of the word "Demon" is a bit incorrect. As you'll learn in the this smt lore video, the world of the Jinn, Djinn, or Genie, are much too nuanced to all be categorized as simply demons. The spiritual world in Abrahamic religions can get pretty deep and Islam is no exception. For a very long time, having been raised Roman Catholic, I didn't know much about the Islamic beliefs and practices. I always assumed they were roughly the same as my own, but I was very wrong. Despite how similar out beliefs are generally, considering the three of us all belief in a monotheistic religion, the interpretations of the divine world of heaven and the profane realm of hell is very different. I’ve covered a lot of demons and angels from across Abrahamic religions. From the earliest incarnations of Jewish Mysticism, to modern works regarding angelology and demonology. Despite this, I haven’t talked much about the Islamic religion’s interpretations of these spiritual entities. From the fall of Iblis akin to the fall of Lucifer, and the Shaytan akin to the demons of the underworld. Today we’ll dive deep into the uniquely islamic characters of Shin Megami Tensei, and learn all about the youngest Abrahamic religion. For Shin Megami Tensei, they have a lot more demons from Islam and the Arabic world than I first thought when I started researching. Learning all about heaven and hell in Islam, the fall of Iblis and who the shaytan were, all very enlightening experiences. I tried to trim down all I learned in a very manageable sized video but as always, especially when it comes to religion, there is always much more to learn. With this SMT Lore I hope to bring people together and learn about what makes religion so special to so many people, the great life lessons and cosmic struggle of good and evil!
