Bunch of immature in their 20s what they would know about anything, utubers just to get more viewers for a paycheck, I wouldn't listen to them.

I want to preface by stating that I am by no means experienced in the gym. I've been struggling with my weight for 12 years. I've yoyo lifting (if that's even a phrase) anyway, I wonder what the benefits are for beginners? I ask because I do this unintentionally. My intention is always to go through the full rom but end up finishing my last sets with these mini pumps. I personally like it because it makes me sore so I can feel what muscles I worked on. I feel like that feedback is great for mind muscle connection.

Okay but has anyone looked into the muscle damage and recovery aspect. Most of these studies might do volume or frequency equated but might overlook that not using lengthened partials could allow for higher frequency training. And there can be different recruitment patterns at different lengths of the movement.

Notoriously hip thrusts work for the glutes but mostly train the shortened length. I think we can't just take these results and apply them to every movement pattern

What i like to do is pick i weight i can do about 8-10 reps with and then do one half rep and then one full rep till my target zone. On my last set i then take it as far as to failure as i can.

Do they make you stronger though? I’ve seen Olympic lifters do long length partials on front squats often, even though they are judged on going through full range of motion on their lifts.

The science based community finally figuring out what gym bro's have known for decades. Training to failure and hitting partials to failure elicits a lot of growth. The idea of doing your last set as all partials is something I hadn't considered previously and I'll most certainly give that a try.

I didn't read the studies, but will try to in the next couple of days.
The thing I'm most interested in is seeing if they increased reps/weight due to the decrease in difficulty of not doing Full ROM. For instance, pull-ups, I can easily 25 when I stop with my head below the bar but only 15 when I chin the bar.
Now what do we compare? "Long-length partials" to failure(66% more reps) vs Full ROM to failure OR do we compare the same reps/sets?
So does it basically come down to time under tension being increase results in more hypertrophy?
Or are LLPs just better even with the exact same weight, reps and time under tension? In my mind that is impossible.
Edit: Scratch impossible, I mean highly unlikely.

Dude, you're into science big time. May I respectfully suggest you use some down-home, garden variety cables for chest work.
The hands must cross over in front of the chest! Because the action of the pectoralis is to move the arm 'across' the body; not just to bring it to the front.
Talk to any kinesiologist and they'll fully inform you of the fact.
Just sayin'.

can confirm these work. at early 2000 when i did my most serious lifting i always did ~3 lengthened partials after positive failure for almost every set (not counting heavy compound movements) and results were very good. Back then this "science based" training wasn't a thing but people did these and they worked. Still this day i rip few partials after every failure and they are awesome

Key points:
* Long length partials are a type of exercise that involves doing half reps in the stretched part of the range of motion.
* They are more effective for muscle growth than short length partials or full range of motion exercises.
* They can be used as an intensity technique to extend the last set of an exercise beyond failure.
* They can also be used on every rep of a set.
* When doing long length partials, it is important to maintain good control and limit the range of motion enough.
* Long length partials are not a replacement for full range of motion exercises, but they can be a valuable tool for building muscle.

I tried it when I was experimenting with single set to failure combined with constant time under tension - this pretty much enforced lengtened partials to stay in the movement range that kept high tension on the muscle, although for some exercises (like curls) it also meant not going to full extension, beacuse that's where the tension is minimal.

I grew way more muscle than ever before, that being said I was (and still am) a relative beginner so I would grow no matter what, and the extra growth could be attributed to consistently hitting true failure for the first time, and then going beyond it with drop sets. Pumps were insane. Sets were significantly harder than the regular ones due to lack of "mini rests" in the locked-out position, and the burn would start hitting very early in each set. It took a lot of willpower to grind through that burn and hit failure.

Thank you Jeff for the idea of having every other rep being a lenghtened partial, that sounds like a reasonable middle ground that also keeps sets comparable to each other (unlike dumping on the lenghtened partials onto the last set).
