nope... not giong to happen... in all that analysis.... how in the world did you miss this one i'll never know... how are you gonna sign the thing... how in the world is the kid... standing and waiting to see his favorite nba star... get an autograph on the waffle ball of a basketball... and beyond that... no more championship balls with all the players of that team... this is definetly a show stopper when the right bonehead on this project team realizes this... all done... goodbye to the hi-tech bball...

I do not see this design reaching us in 12 months, it would perhaps in the future but I don't see it happening within the year it has too many flaws.

Cruel. I think of the young kid with stars in their eyes of the NBA someday, practicing every waking moment making the ball part of him/her. ...and you do something stupid like CHANGE THE BALL???!!!?? WTF?

In the sport Sepak Takraw the leagues use plastic balls that also don't need inflated.

You can keep rocks out by putting a bladder inside. You hold the bladder in place with air pressure! 😂

Bounce is not the same, its marketing for EOS. No worries basketball purists, regular basketballs aren’t going anywhere.

My company has a branch with an SLS printer and it costs us about $200 to print something solid that's roughly a fifth the size of a basketball, so I would call that a low end estimate. SLS is just not very cheap.

They could theoretically add little bumps along the outside edges of the holes to replicate the grippiness of a regular basketball. That could add a little bit more grip to it but I'm not sure if it'll add more weight.

I don't play basketball, but I did have some fun with my friends a few times.

My main issue with this would probably be weight, a regular ball has more weight in it and is pretty balanced. If this ball is lighter than a standard ball... it would definitely mess the rhythm a player has (like say you play COD then play CS:GO, still the same... but it takes a moment to readjust) and another thing is... since it's hexagonal the surface area doesn't become balanced like a normal ball would.

Why are people acting like were gonna be able to afford them in the beginning. I highly doubt there gonna be cheap

If these are dog-proof, I have a shepherd/berner mix that would absolutely love this, even if it doesn't make it to the big league. She tends to pop them eventually, and it's pitiful seeing her try to revive the fun times with a flat ball.

Certainly it would make for a good outdoor ball if it has good aerodynamics, and it does not wear fast on outdoor surfaces. There's already differences between rubber and leather balls. The price has to be right though, so a budding player can purchase their own ball. The ball has to last as well.

It’s called innovation most of you could learn from it by reading a book and not social media all day it’s how we have everything we have today

The more technologically advanced a product is, the more it costs, until the prices eventually start to come down based on newer, simple production methods and mass adoption. Look at how expensive the first Tesla roadster was when it first came out, and now look at how the prices have come down on other models and brands for the exact same reasons I listed above. It will get faster, better, cheaper over time, but it won’t be at launch of this new ball.

I bet that some prick holds a patent on the new design and it's all a ploy to make boatloads of money.

I think the holes would actually benefit the Magnus Effect in some ways, acting more like dimples on a golf ball, and indeed acting like a Wiffle ball.

The tech aspect and gimmick alone is pretty sweet minus the cost. I want one that glows in the dark and under blacklight...y'all can imaigne how much fun that could be. Especially a blacklight court...

My guess is that the holes will act like a golf ball and will break the boundary laminar air flow, taking away much of the magnus effect as well as negate crosswinds to some extent.

If I had to guess, the holes are designed to create air bubbles not unlike what's created in the back of a pickup truck that when thrown, especially at high speeds, it will behave as though it doesn't have any holes.
