I remember watching this for the first time many years ago and not being able to control my tears. On a personal level I have experienced what Richard was feeling. Though it never ended the way this did, it came very close to it on one day. What you feel when you're in this state is a gut retching pain in your stomach and you can never relax, never enjoy normal things unless you know she is with you and only you. The emotions of paranoia and suspicion are unlike anything else I can describe; The best I can say is it's like a feeling of impending doom, like a dagger over your head, a clock running out of time. You know it's coming but you just don't know when. I have overcome paranoia for the most part I am glad to say, but this brings back terrible memories for me and I can almost taste the feeling of betrayal at that time of my life when I watch this. I think it's obvious for everyone to see that Della and Allen's actions were inappropriate and were clearly exaggerated, but it does capture the pain of people like Richard and me very well.

I LOVE how so many comments about this episode or any setup like this are people whining about poor Richard/anyone in his place, despite the fact he murdered two people who he supposedly loved in cold blood and ended his unborn child (unknowingly) over what amounted to things that are either all in his head or if they were real, his wife and friend being close to each other (maybe more than they should've, but nothing that confirmed they were sleeping together) and being a bit secretive (for a party FOR HIM), and he doesn't confront them on it beyond just screaming at them and getting drunk, and even before that all unfolds he just mopes and drinks. Also, he's shown to be jealous of Alan from the start just for being more successful, which just comes across as pathetic to me. While his wife even tries to soothe his fears over that and possibly losing her to boot, and both of THEM are the awful people? What is wrong with others, I cannot fathom.

All they did, at worst, was act a bit suspicious and were a bit too secretive about the party, and be a little more intimate with each other than was right, and yet they are seen as the assholes vs. a literal murderer and jealous drunk who'd rather assume the worst than act like an adult and talk things over. Can't have been easy living with Richard, since he's shown from the literal start to be a drinker, angry, and jealous, to the point of being panicked over a frigging phone call that he's present for after his wife has JUST told him it was okay, but no sympathy for them at all.

But, I guess to society, cheating or even being suspected of cheating makes you absolute trash that deserves to be killed off. Real great moral standards...

Why would you share and confide a pregnancy with you husbands friend instead of your husband. Clearly he is going through a depression and might advance to a psychotropic breakdown. She should have helped and attended to him then his friend. You would want that respect for yourself. But he should have gotten to the bottom of the situation

This episode is very fishy. Allen & Della spending too much time together despite she being married to Richard. Della even have the nerve to gaslight Richard. Allen gaslight Richard too as Allen being a rich man claim to be a do gooder by organising a party for both of them. The way i see it the organising this party was a ruse a distraction. Here how it goes, Della found out that she is pregnant with Allen child. They planned together to throw a suprise party for Richard to his aniversary with Della. For all we know the child in Della womb is fathered by Allen. Good thing that he killed both Allen & Della rather than raising another man's spawn with his limited resources.

I feel like Della and Allen were deliberately leading Richard on with his suspicions and if they really wanted to they could've told him any number of times before he killed them.

I would say take her she ain't that damn hot anyway

There was a Truly Tasteless Joke (from one of the books of the same name) where a woman led her husband blindfolded to their dinner table and then walked off to get supper. While he was waiting there and unable to see, he let a few go (breaking wind) because he was feeling all gassy. Then, a few minutes and several farts later and such, the wife took off the blindfold and there were all these guests sitting there waiting to sing him a surprise "Happy Birthday!"



This episode is really like the NC17 version of that.

The way this woman says Richard reminds me of that South Park episode where the shop class teacher has flashbacks of his wife flying a plane and crashing..”look at me I’m flying Richard”😂

He's DEFINITELY going to jail after that.

I don't believe she was pregnant by her husband! Remember the husband stating he was upset he could not give his wife children.

Alan and Della brung their own demise on themselves, too many obvious signs even tho she wasn’t actually cheating.

Moral of the story? Never throw secret surprise parties kids, people are guaranteed to die.

I was pretty young (probably too young) but this episode blew my mind. Such a fantastically executed twist ending.

I HATED this episode as a kid because it lacked the OTT gore but as I got older it became one of my favorites, That ending is a gut punch

This was the darkest episode for me gavans acting was incredible.

Does anyone else feel like this episode is one of the worst ones they made? Right from the get-go Richard comes across as dangerously delusional, yet Della and Alan act in a way that practically validates his paranoia about them having an affair behind his back. Even if he didn't kill her at the end, could you really believe that Richard and Della adding a child to their horrible marriage would result in anything but tragedy?

Tbh its the wifes fault and also the best mans fault.

"Della" was beautiful....I don't think her befriending "Richard's" bestie was something "Richard" had to fear. I wont spoil it the plot. But what i will say is the assumption "Richard" fely about "Allen" & "Della" having an affair was far out the stratosphere of the truth....
