Never played this game, but if it were rated R like it was originally supposed to, i might have watched it in the theater
ОтветитьAs a fan of the games that has played more than 500 hours of them I can tell you that if you think you hated the movie, you can’t possibly comprehend how a game fan can despise such an offensive attempt to adapt the source material
I can tell you, NO ONE who actually worked in this movie ever played a second of any of the games and it shows
if the game is hyper violent, why would anyone think it would be a good idea for the film to not be violent? there are loads of non violent games that you could ‘take your kids to’…like Minecraft.
ОтветитьPoor Kevin. i get the feeling he’s a really nice person who’s probably fun to be around but he cannot act. his comedy is that weird american comedy that’s just saying things loudly over and over.
ОтветитьI dont think it is bickering to check basic understanding and foundation for ones beliefs or regarding a planned invasion. Like probably you should uave at least read the wiki page.
ОтветитьI think this movie made my chronic depression worse. Wonder if I can sue for pain and suffering?
ОтветитьMay you inherit the wind.
ОтветитьLionsgate knew that Borderlands was a disaster that they buried it to death!
ОтветитьWho is the Kathleen Kennedy of this movie? Someone had to approve it, and it seemed like the director had zero control over it.
ОтветитьMovie wasn't "made for noone", it was made for Rights Retention, sadly.
ОтветитьIf there's any future attempts at a live action Borderlands movie or series, they should look at adapting Tales from the Borderlands or do a similar approach to it.
ОтветитьThe casting is just all over the place. This is a perfect example of the joke where studios cast people based on Oscar buzz and social media followers. Kevin Hart fits more as Roland's Uber driver than Roland himself. Cate Blanchett fits more as Lilith's mum.
ОтветитьThis film was a masterpiece in miscast and a proof that being a good actor doesn't mean you can play all roles.
ОтветитьTaking a 9 year old to a film where Chris Tucker eats a bitch out is wild.
ОтветитьThe games are crazy, fun, humorous, serious in places & wonderful. The movie is so dull it could only really be described as a good insomnia cure
ОтветитьEli Roth is a bad omen
ОтветитьI had no plan to watching this… Until it inexplicably leaked online in its entirety.
Idk, it’s like the used plot beats don’t fit together. I’m also unfamiliar with Borderlands the game, but I wasn’t entertained by what saw. The most interaction I saw with Lilith and Tiny Tina was when Lilith brushed some puke on Tina’s shoulder after teleporting everyone to safety. (Tina took credit for it and nobody questions it.)
I remember that when this movie came out it had plenty of screens available, next week it was gone from the movie ticket app because pretty much nobody watched it,it was just brutal lol
ОтветитьIs so sad that in a world where we’re finally starting to get good videogame adaptations we still get crap that completely misses the point of what made the games so good like Uncharted,Until Dawn,Minecraft and Borderlands
ОтветитьRoland is supposed to be Tina's surrogate parent so it's odd they made it Lilith instead. (I mean I think she becomes one more after Roland dies in BL2 but he's still alive here so). More noticeably, Tiny Tina and Krieg aren't supposed to be in the story they're adapting (that of Borderlands 1)--they both debut in Borderlands 2, wherein Tina is an NPC and Krieg is one of the playable characters (his whole shtick is saying RANDOM CRAAAAZY stuff--I haven't played as him but I imagine it gets old really fast.) Technically this one Claptrap being the only one left shouldn't be the case until Borderlands 2 either. IMO the thing that in the game series made Claptrap's jokes land (which admittedly they only did some of the time, as with the humor in the games in general) was that he was kind of an egotistical asshole. Take that away like they do in the movie (at least judging from the clips I found) and you just have a more obnoxious C-3PO. Another thing is that characters being annoying in the games isn't as aggravating as in the movie for a few reasons: the gameplay is actually good, and due to how dialogue works (characters will just talk and if you walk away from them their dialogue will start coming through your communicator thing instead, so you don't have to worry about missing anything important) you don't have to just wait around while an unfunny bit plays out, you can go actually do stuff. But in a movie there is no gameplay so the obnoxious dialogue is all there is. The other thing is that, while some characters show up more than others, none of them except your player character are really omnipresent, they come and go as you move through the story (at least in terms of you having to talk to/listen to them), so if you think their shtick is annoying they're in relatively short and spread-out bursts (at least compared to being a main character in a movie).
Tannis's thing is supposed to be that she's really weird and kind of unethical--she's a "nutty professor" kind of character, which is why at least in theory I don't have an issue with an older actress playing her, it plays into the whole mad scientist archetype IMO. But from your description it seems like she's not that, so what's the point of casting Jamie Lee Curtis
I know this comment is going on forever but the Atlas character, who doesn't exist in the game series (the Atlas corporation does exist, and the villains of the first Borderlands work for them, the only time we meet any Atlas CEO is in BL3 where it's Rhys, a main character from Tales of the Borderlands), seems to be them trying to squeeze a take on Handsome Jack, the villain of Borderlands 2, into BL1. Not just the "evil CEO" thing, but also the stuff with Tina is...well it's spoilers but there are parallels to Jack there.
Other people have said this already but while the cubes in the Vault aren't game-accurate, the tentacle monster is. The difference is that you have to actually fight it, it's the final boss of the first game.
If it was Crash Bandicoot then it would’ve made billions of dollars
ОтветитьI don't think I've ever been as baffled by casting choices as I was seeing the trailer for Borderlands. Usually there will be 1 or 2 that are questionable but they missed across the board to such a spectacular degree that whoever was in charge of casting needs to have their brain studied.
ОтветитьFun fact, you don’t even need to be a fan of borderlands to hate this movie. This movie could’ve been called anything else and it will be a more. Better movie of they literally just use the name. This had nothing to do with borderlands in the slightest. I am not joking. Except for the sets and the costume design. Fun fact about the vaults each of them has a monster in them not just a bunch of cubes. Unlike this movie shows them as.
ОтветитьThis is by far the worst movie I've ever seen.
ОтветитьNot having played the games kinda gives you a one-up on giving a more neutral cinema review <3
ОтветитьYou knew it would be terrible as soon as you saw the casting.
ОтветитьPG 13 rating
Missed casting ++++ everyone expect Marcus
Putting in Tina and her “father”
Writers not understand source material
Unfunny jokes
Plot armour+++
So bad
At least we got a minecraft movie, and it was enjoyable.
ОтветитьWhen the trailer came out- with the 70s soundtrack and clips of all the characters making snarky remarks- you could tell they just want to hitch a ride on the Guardians wagon.
Ответитьl luvd it takes extra brains to appreciate
ОтветитьI've been playing Borderlands since the second game. I immediately knew that this was going to suck when they put characters from different games, from different points of time. I wasn't expecting things to be 100% accurate, but at least settle on one goddamn game's cast of characters.
ОтветитьRoth is such a hack
ОтветитьEli Roth made threats to Greta thunberg on social media . Yeh this guy sucks
ОтветитьHonestly i saw this in theaters i was the only one in there and it was eazly the worst film iv ever seen and im a huge borderlands fan its worse then disney star wars i dont see where the budget went
Ответить"You think that close to 10 screen writers"
This, this right here next with the 17 producers is the main trouble of the movie.
Plus Randy "Greasy man left a USB drive filled with content that would put a man on jail at a Medieval Times" Pitchford.
I will say that movie based off a dead-ish video game series can still be successful
The first Sonic film, even with the horrible marketing start, still managed to make some coin before COVID shut theaters down and be an overall decent film, with over time and through better sequels brought the series back to its glory days.
And its really, really weird that SONIC, an lol cow on the internet for decades, is literally the only example for anything like this.
BL3 and this terrible movie are enough reason for me not to buy BL4!
ОтветитьIt's the easiest explanation ever. Studio goes "hey we got this IP to adapt" fans go "man, that better be good for live action since it's basically a cartoon"
Studio goes "here's the cast we've selected for the characters you're attached too" and the fans went "the majority of this casting sucks"
The studio had 2 and a half perfect scripts to copy and use, and decided no one really needs to play the games or understand the lore to make the project
It's yet again, a studio of out of touch boomers looking for a quick buck, getting told repeatedly "this will not work" and saying "screw you fans, I know what puts butts in seats" and steered the project into an iceberg
I remember thinking that Blanchett and JLC who are both of course very good actresses were oddly cast for a screwball video game action movie and was told that 'well guys way older are ALSO cast for much younger roles' and all I could think to say was I didn't like it when that happened either because it also doesn't work.
Ответить"Can you grab my badonkadonk?" - says an underage girl in a movie based on a franchise where the creator supposedly forgot a USB Stick with underage p*rngraphy in a Medieval Times 🤮🤮
ОтветитьI have to take my hat off to Eli Roth's professionalism for not shitting on the producers' heads like Josh Trank did at the launch of Fant4stic, I wouldn't have that professionalism in his place. 😂😂
ОтветитьThe House With A Clock In Its Walls is a SERIOUSLY underrated movie.
ОтветитьImagine if James Gunn had gotten ahold of this project. The Borderlands series seems tailor-made for his style/humor.
ОтветитьI suggested this one! This is why I do not understand the "video games are the new superheroes" statement. If niche franchises like Fire Emblem or has-been franchises like Borderlands or Halo could be at least financially successful, then I could understand it. FNAF and Minecraft proved that quality does not always matter, as long as it appeals to the fanbase, it will not be one of the biggest bombs of their respective years.
ОтветитьI dont mind the fact that an older women take the lead on an action film but...lets not ignore the problem with this. She looks way too old and slow for the scenes. She is beautiful but her ego is big. She should let younger stars take the chance.
ОтветитьI saw this film and yeah failed hard before we all could say fail hard like kaboom this is a shit show of a film like oh my fucking god dude!
ОтветитьBorderlands is a movie so fucking bad that you already know just from the trailers that the director would later go on to say that he wants an autistic kid to get eaten by cannibals without even knowing he said that.
ОтветитьI played the games, and had fun. Honestly though, they are terrible games. I like grinding for unique weapons, which is good, cuz that's literally it. The same fights over and over. Unfunny jokes. Lazy writing. The movie nailed it really, except the leading ladies aren't hot.
ОтветитьAny 2 big misfire decisions will tank a project completely. 1. They made it PG-13 and basically bloodless 2. Casting an elderly woman as Lilith and a midget as Roland...
Ответить
