You can use regular sfp transceivers and cables between this switch and other sfp only devices, just keep to one format or the other per line (don't mix/match sfp and sfp+ cables and transceivers.)
I am doing exactly same thing with this switch, 3 truenas servers, 2 workstations , and 2 24 port Ubiquiti POE switches.
Thanks for the video
stop moving your hands so much! got me dizzy
ОтветитьExcept it is Ubiquiti. Hard pass.
ОтветитьSo this switch wouldn’t be a good idea to outfit a home, if the SPF to copper/RJ-45 transceivers are used. I understand an SPF uplink (switch/router) is perfectly fine… but SPF as a downlink to devices/endpoints?
ОтветитьGreen Bubbles for life!
ОтветитьThis was explained very well, great video. Thank you.
ОтветитьWhat’s the benefit over daisy chaining router > switch > NVR using the SFP ports?
ОтветитьI've noticed some finickiness with 10G RJ45 SFP's my Unifi Agg switch. I've seen some connection speeds at 5G. They work fine in my US 16 XG and connect at 10G.
ОтветитьHi Samir, great review, thanks! Excellent explanation about this Unifi Switch. I like that you speak fast, no need to accelerate the video. Can I mention a tiny bit suggestion? when you edit the cuts, maybe give an extra time so you can eliminate the frame when you move your hand down to put pause...
Ответить"At most gigabit"
um no. Most devices for the past year have been coming with 2.5 gigabit.
Awesome vid however, one confusing point from is how have you networked your Synology NAS (DS1618+?), the only cards I can find are RJ45. SO I am gathering both your computer and the NAS utilise the transceiver modules? Sorry if I missed something.
I am looking at ways I can expedite my home network Andy bottleneck at current is the NAS (DS918+), I've currently kept this NAS as it is the most cost effective and runs most of the codecs for Plex (not Plex Pass) for me.
Open to suggestions before I go dump crazy amounts of cash chasing my already growing Unif eco system :)
Hiding intranet IP addresses. Wow, you're such a pro, man.
ОтветитьI got a mix of Aruba for 10GB and cisco catalyst for my POE.
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video. Btw, is this a managed switch? Can you setup VLANs? Does it have a CLI? I have the TP-LINK SX3008F and am considering switching -- no pun intended lol. It has a Cisco-like CLI.
Ответитьwithout M-LAG or stacking this switch is totally useless
ОтветитьI have one of these and it does pretty good. It once in a while has failed to negotiate a 10G RJ45 SFP. I don't know that these SFP are officially supported though so can't knock it that hard.
ОтветитьReally good video! I'm in the process of going to do a wiring job on my house and looking at my options. You gave me some good advice, plus questions I had regarding the jacks. I still think I might go with Cat6a for wiring, but might just stick with 1GB for now.
ОтветитьCat5e is sufficient for short runs with 10G Base-T. Just watch the YT videos from the ones who tested it.
Supposedly you might get 25m on a 30m SFP to RJ45 (10G Base-T) transceiver.
Thanks for the demo and info, jumped the gun, based on your review and feedback and now got the unifi aggregation switch. Have a great day
ОтветитьGreat Video! Thanks
Ответить300 is not that affordable , under 100 is affordable ,,
ОтветитьExcellent video !
ОтветитьSamir you are a man of many talents. First time on the channel immediately subbed, you're doing an awesome job in explanations!
ОтветитьThis switch suited a purpose and was named accordingly. Most UniFi stuff has 2 sfp ports, connecting more than one switch to a WAN with aggregated links or more than 2 sfp downlinks would have been impossible without this aggregate switch. It’s an important part of a redundant business ecosystem but functions just fine as a super fancy switch at home where it still suites the need of connecting many sfp devices or a few with redundant links.
I highly recommended isolating Poe switches with fiber links instead of DAC or Ethernet (especially shielded cable). Linking with DAC or shielded cable essentially makes a common ground between units which may act wonky if the whole chassis isn’t also grounded locally especially if you have any ESD protectors on a outdoor ground outside of the electrical panel circuit or are connecting separate network rooms that may be on different circuits. Not to mention if 500 watts of Poe power went the wrong way when a switch dies.
This guy needs to slow down when he talks slow down dude.
ОтветитьI have the aggregation switch and it has reduced my Internet speed to all devices connected to it.
I have a 2.5Gbps Fiber connection and the aggregation switch if a device is connected to it reduces the speed dramatically and exhibits one of the following issues.
1. Download is maxed out for the SFP port linked via RJ45 to a computer or the upload is maxed out and the download is severely reduced.
PC 1. Download 940Mbps / Upload. 120Mbps
PC 2. Download 600Mbps / Upload 2450Mbps.
I have no idea what's going on :(
I thought I read that a device that's on a separate Vlan through aggregation 8 port can cause issues which would be my 10Gbps UNVR as it's on its own Vlan with cameras.
This video is pretty misleading... how is it a steal when it still needs to purchase a transceiver module for every port...
ОтветитьJust excellent. Subscribed. I am really glad you did mention byte/bit aspect of things which many nowadays don't get.
ОтветитьWell done video. This helped me decide on purchasing the USW-Aggregation over the Switch Enterprise 8 PoE, and save quite bit of money in the process.
ОтветитьI think a lot of people went for the Pro AG or the enterprise PoE for L3 switching for users who have multiple VLANs on one switch
ОтветитьGot this for the same reasons you did, plus I wanted to run 10g fiber to a shop I had built about 400ft from my house so that I could get wifi/ethernet connectivity out there. 100% agree this switch is a steal for the money.
ОтветитьThis is my first time seeing one of your videos, I don't give out compliments easily - but you definitely deserve one! You hit on every single one of the questions I had about this switch and did it without the annoying and cringey antics that are all too common on YT these days. You've earned a sub! Thank you.
ОтветитьPossible for sfp non plus for 1gb infrastructure?
ОтветитьNope. Not layer 3. Silly to have to send traffic down to your router to cross vlans. Great for simple networks I suppose.
ОтветитьI picked up this switch around the same time you did, and I still agree with all your points here. It's been a rock solid switch and, for what you get, an absolute bargain. You just can't knock an 8 port 10GB switch, let alone one compatible with all your other Unifi gear, for under $300. Absolute steal.
ОтветитьI bought that switch. I think it is a great deal too!
ОтветитьVLAN support? If not then I'll pass. Also, ithe ports are SFP+ instead of ethernet, so I need to purchase 8 modules to get ethernet connectivity? That's another $500?
ОтветитьHi Samir, Thank you for making these awesome videos. They are super helpful. I recently upgraded my internet to a 5 Gbps connection. The problem I am facing now is that the router has only one 5 Gig port and I have a few other devices to be connected that support 5 Gig speeds. Which switch would you recommend that will allow me to use and get the 5 gig connection (wired with Cat 8 cables) to my devices. This is just for home use.
ОтветитьSuper high quality video for a smaller channel. Keep it up... You're likeable, knowledgable, and great and explaining
ОтветитьStop moving your hands!
ОтветитьBIggest takeaway from this video is that USW-Aggregation is affordable 10gig until you become a UniFi fanboy
ОтветитьAbsolutely amazing video on the topic, thank you so much :)
One quick tip for the post production, make sure you take a second before you stop talking and reaching down to hit your stop record button, I could notice it in almost every cut
Great video! One small (hopefully constructive) criticism is that the excess hand motion is quite distracting. Cheers.
ОтветитьWould you recommend this on top of a Switch Enterprise with PoE?
ОтветитьUntill you use ruckus Lol ruckus destorys unifi
ОтветитьI think that nobody is talking about it because it is only layer 2 switch.
Ответитьits always the cost. you can only justify 10gig networking if you make money off compute services.
ОтветитьHmmm, I'll never use their routers. OpnSense or PFSense only. Unifi access points and switches are fine
ОтветитьThis is an amazing device, I have this and a UDM Pro
Ответить
