Work for pay. Don't work for free.
My policy is get paid as you go through the job and stop work if the customer stops paying.

I noticed how when customers rip companies that do those types of professions most get angry and falsy accuse when they have to own up to the bill .Whether I hear about it in real life or tv it still has a pattern on the customers when they don't pay

As much as I agree people should pay for work done, can we have advice on what to do when you pay for a job and the contractor doesn’t turn up to finish the last days work and so we are left with an incomplete job, which requires about 4 hours work? He ignored all our calls, (though when we used a friend’s phone he answered straight away, and put the phone down when he knew it was us) and a letter to him has gone unanswered. This may be not as expensive now as some of the jobs on here but we clients also have to put up with bad contractors too and we now have to look for someone else to finish the job and pay them too!

All of my contractors love me, as I always pay their invoices within 24 hours :) .

Got to miss the 70s a neighbor refused to pay my Dad for some brick and block work then called the sheriff, when they got their all the block and brick were tore down, The sheriff wanted to know why the neighbor was bleeding the other neighbors said he fell in the rubble, that neighbor sold out and moved shortly after.

I have done similar things. Lately I was lucky enough to see the true intent of a customer who kept toying with me regarding the start date and I was given the wrong address for my contract. Went to another job instead and no harm done. Yay!

A buddy was a drain layer on a major commercial project. The developer stopped payments, so the drain layer backed a concrete truck up to the site and filled all the drains up with cement.

You can't expect to have a service without paying for it - if the work is to a decent standard and done at the price you agreed to pay, then just put your hand in your pocket.

This is the exact reason I moved from residential to commercial work. In commercial work the price is the price, and you get it in draws, so there's just a bit left at the end for the final payment.

I hope they are kinder to those that cant pay, fine with it all to the scum who wont, but hope there are better solutions for those who cant, neither are ideal but hope there is more flexibility to those who may have had an event that makes it more difficult.

How much of this is fake? I just viewed a clip where the audio and video aren't even from the same interaction. Other clips just look like demo before construction. This is like a montage of random construction videos.

My son got stung because his friend got paid up front and smoked it all. Contractor screwed my son and others with wrong materials, shoddy work and then no show to finish. My son got a good contractor and the bad ones reputation is in the public dumpster.

I had an Auto upholstery cleaning business. One lady contracted me to clean & shampoo her well worn auto seat covering for an agreed upon cash price. After I cleaned out all the rubbish from the seats, and then shampooed & deodorized her stinking vehicle & seat covers, she refused to pay, because I didn't fluff up the 10 years of worn out seat coverings. SO I put my waste water hose from my waste water dump tank into her vehicle, and opened the valve! I gave her all her dirty, stinking waste water back all over her nasty seats & flooring. Of course I never did get paid for that job!

It is not advisable to do this because you can still get in trouble with the law even if the scumbag client didn't want to pay.

Question: So they don't pay, you remove/destroy everything, so obviously you have lost money, can you take this to court ? so they will be forced to pay even though everything is destroyed/removed ? or is this the solution instead, where you have lost money, time, supplies etc and the idiot customer gets "away"

Devil's advocate, I disagree I had a contractor come in fuked up my shower to then clog it up now he's trying to charge me for his piss poor work and trying to add another charge for making him come back to fix the drain. I'm not paying him a dime these situations are far from black and white.

You shouldn't be doing work if you're not licensed. Period.
